ACTIVITY 2. Test passive and active electronic devices. (15 points)
Using a multimeter, provide test evidence of passive electronic devices.
and components such as: Resistors, Coils, Capacitors, Diodes, and Transistors.
Resistors: Resistors are components that offer a certain
opposition to the flow or circulation of electric current.
Capacitors:
A capacitor is a component made up of two conductive plates between which
an insulator is interleaved, whose function is to store a quantity of energy in the form of
electric charge.
Coils:
Inductance or coil is a component characterized by its coefficient of
self-induction
(L) is a parameter that indicates the amount of energy that the coil stores in
the magnetic field.
Coils are components that, like capacitors, present 3
Main characteristics: They store energy: the value of the energy stored in the
The magnetic field is proportional to the self-inductance coefficient and to the square of the
intensity that circulates.
Diodes: The diode is an electronic component that only allows the flow of electricity.

ACTIVITY 3. Classify the numbering systems. (15 points)
Describe the different number systems and their conversion methods.
Activity 3: Classify the numbering systems
Describe the different numbering systems and their conversion methods.
1. Decimal System (Base 10)
Description: It is the most commonly used numbering system. It uses ten digits (0-
9) and each position represents a power of 10.
Conversion to other systems: To convert a decimal number to another system, one can
divide the number by the base of the target system, noting the remainders until the quotient is 0.
Then, the remains are read in reverse order.
2. Binary System (Base 2)
- Descripción: Utiliza dos dígitos (0 y 1). Es el sistema de numeración usado en la informática
and digital electronics.
Decimal Conversion: To convert a binary number to decimal, each digit is multiplied
by 2 raised to the position of the digit (starting from 0) and all the products are summed.
- Conversion from Decimal: The decimal number is divided by 2, noting the remainders, and they are read.
the remains in reverse order.
3. Octal System (Base 8)
- Descripción: Utiliza ocho dígitos (0-7). Es útil en informática para representar números
more compact binary.
Conversion to Decimal: Similar to binary conversion, but using powers of 8.
Conversion from Decimal: The decimal number is divided by 8, noting the remainders, and they are read.
the remains in reverse order.
4. Hexadecimal System (Base 16)
- Descripción: Utiliza dieciséis dígitos (0-9 y A-F, donde A=10, B=11, ..., F=15). Es
widely used in programming and hardware design.
Conversion to Decimal: Similar to the previous systems, but using powers of 16.
- Conversion from Decimal: The decimal number is divided by 16, noting the remainders, and is
read the remains in reverse order.
5. Roman System
Description: Uses letters from the Latin alphabet (I, V, X, L, C, D, M) to represent values.
This system is non-positional and more complex for performing calculations.
Decimal Conversion: Each letter has a specific value (I=1, V=5, X=10, L=50, C=100,
D=500, M=1000) and they are added or subtracted depending on their relative position.
- Conversion from Decimal: The decimal number is broken down into sums of values
represented by Roman symbols.
Conversion Methods
Decimal to Binary/Octal/Hexadecimal: Successive division by the base of the target system,
noting the remains and reading in reverse order.
Binary to Decimal: Multiply each digit by 2 raised to its position and sum.
Octal to Decimal: Multiply each digit by 8 raised to its position and sum.
Hexadecimal to Decimal: Multiply each digit by 16 raised to its position and sum.
Roman to Decimal: Sum the values corresponding to each symbol, subtracting when a
a symbol of lesser value precedes one of greater value.
Example of Decimal to Binary Conversion
To convert the decimal number 13 to binary:
1. 13 ÷ 2 = 6, remainder 1
2. 6 ÷ 2 = 3, remainder 0
3. 3 ÷ 2 = 1, remainder 1
4. 1 ÷ 2 = 0, remainder 1
Reading the digits in reverse order, the number 13 in binary is 1101.
Example of Decimal to Hexadecimal Conversion
To convert the decimal number 254 to hexadecimal:
1. 254 ÷ 16 = 15, remainder 14 (E)
2. 15 ÷ 16 = 0, remainder 15 (F)
Reading the remnants in reverse order, the number 254 in hexadecimal is FE.
