CONSUMER ARITHMETIC FORMULAS

1. Percentage (%)

Percentage = (Part / Whole) × 100

Part = (Percentage / 100) × Whole

Percentage change = ((New - Original) / Original) × 100

2. Profit & Loss

Profit = Selling Price - Cost Price

Loss = Cost Price - Selling Price

Profit% = (Profit / CP) × 100

Loss% = (Loss / CP) × 100

3. Discount

Discount = Marked Price - Selling Price

Discount% = (Discount / MP) × 100

SP = MP - ((Discount% / 100) × MP)

4. Simple Interest

I=P×R×T

A=P+I

5. Compound Interest

A = P(1 + R/100)^T

CI = A - P

6. Exchange Rate

Foreign = Local ÷ Rate

Local = Foreign × Rate

7. Wages & Pay

Wage = Hours worked × Rate per hour


Overtime wage = OT hours × OT rate

Gross Pay = Regular Pay + Overtime Pay

Net Pay = Gross Pay - Deductions

8. VAT

VAT = Price × (VAT% / 100)

Total = Price + VAT

9. Hire Purchase

Deposit = Cash Price × (Deposit% / 100)

Balance = HP Price - Deposit

Monthly Payment = Balance ÷ Number of months

10. Bills & Consumption (Water/Electricity)

Units Used = Current Reading - Previous Reading

Total Bill = (Units Used × Rate per Unit) + Additional Charges (if any)
