Unit I: Ethics and its Origin for the Concept of Social Ethics.
The Catholic University of Mozambique (UCM, 2016) states that "ethics is a field of knowledge.
linked to philosophy and its origin refers us to the philosophical discussion about behavior
human, reflect on the knowledge of good as the ultimate end of man” (p.6).
It adds that given the complexity of human behavior, ethics is subdivided
in (social, professional, moral, military, environmental, and animal).
The source clarifies that etymologically the word ethics comes from the Greek and Latin éthos +
ethics (habits, customs, values) and its origin is attributed to the Ionian philosophers (Thales,
Anaximenes and Anaximander) concerned with the origin of nature and which led them to various
everyday experiences crossing different ideas.
Social Ethics is considered moral philosophy due to its object of reflection.
human behavior, habits, and social customs; seeking to study the origin and the
the nature of moral law life in each society, and the value of good and evil of the conduct of acting
man in society.
The aspects related to Social Ethics are complex as each society has its
way to determine what is good and what is bad. However, the reflection on the beautiful by
example is an exotic and descriptive language of social ethics.
Another aspect is how it was previously mentioned the establishment of rules and ways to
to behave in society.
Ethical facts can be experimental or observed:
Ethical point of view (behavior): acts that each one should do or should not do;
that which is positive or negative.
From an ethical point of view, behavior is distinguished by aspects of individual freedom.
without judgment of others.
Relationship of ethics and other human sciences: it verifies the relationships that exist with the

other sciences, such as: Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Political etymology.

Ethics and Metaphysics: it is an ethical fact because it seeks to make it understood that each conduct

human has, can have or can be good or bad, in addition to the moral thought that falls to
theology, that is, man's belief can determine ethical aspects in a society.
Unit II: Character of Morality (Ethical)
Social ethics encompasses two dimensions of study:
1st–Relation between habits and customs;
2nd - It constitutes the social part of man.

5
1. Social Ethics as a science has its specificity that seeks to encompass both.
elements (Ethical and Social) distinguishing itself from other sciences such as: Philosophical Ethics,
Professional Ethics and Military Ethics.
2. Main characteristics of ethical morality
The characteristics of ethical morality are key aspects that shape human behavior.
Some aspects are unknown to man himself, but can be manifested.
that he (man) takes into account.
UCM (2016) describes the following characteristics of the most common ethical moral:
2.1. Ethics irrefutably distinct from other aspects that could be confused with laws. This
characteristic is used by utilitarian currents, as ethics should not be realized by
mandate of someone.
2.2. Ethics relating to freedom
The good is in relation to human free acts, freedom, moral values are presented
to act for the freedom of the individual.
2.3. The moral act is personal
Ethics is a human aspect, morality resides in the individual, not in their act.
to exercise something correctly.

The act is human

The human act is co-extensive when it encompasses all human beings and individuals or
when human moral value extends to all (family, social group).
The common language leads man to use the objectives 'good and bad' meaning
morally human or inhumane.
2.5. The ethics regarding the norms for attributing moral values to human acts is done
through its confrontation with the rules.
Ethics regarding norms can be considered indirect confrontation when the act is to listen to
someone talks behind someone's back (implicit confrontation) or direct confrontation, that is, to talk about
face or in front of the individual (explicit confrontation).
2.6. Unconditional Ethics
It is absolute and irrefutable in itself; as the good is to be done because it (the good) has a
category, it is neither hypothetical nor distinctive. Moral value obliges what to do and how to do it.

2.7. Transcendent ethics

This character is cloaked in moral values that make it transcendent, however
this means that nothing is superior to the moral value of God.

6
Difference between the characteristics of moral ethics and virtuous knowledge.
The characteristics of ethical morality are key aspects that shape human action despite
some of these may not be known to man himself. They can be manifested without him having to
consider that virtuous knowledge is that (knowledge) which leads us to
to reflect and analyze the reality we are living, is to see the world critically and
comprehensive. And to know how to read the world we live in more broadly.
Unit III: Ethics and Free Will of Human Action
The free will of human action is one of the main aspects of ethical analysis.
For any manifestation, the acceptance or not of certain customs is reflected in the execution of the
facts implying that man consents from his consciousness and by the ethical fact,
evaluate internally and execute something as an end endowed with good or bad ethical value.
The human voluntary act is always an act illuminated by understanding and intelligence. It is
presented at will before the desired objectives, the reasons for appeal.
The different phases of free will in human action:
a) Conception phase - man must conceive his good and the free will to act
in the presence of something that suits him; otherwise, not;

b) Deliberation phase – to think and balance, implies that any human action is a
conscious ethical fact;
c) Decision phase - to do something, it must be commanded by the intellect after
evaluated, the decision is the phase of realizing the action or not to execute;
d) Execution phase - the act of doing as human action is influenced by
internal and external conditions, human responsibility depends on these phases above
described.
Unit IV: The Relationship Between Will and Freedom of Man in Society
In this unit, the source analyzes the relationship between will and freedom and reflects on it.
about several aspects related to Social Ethics.
In this framework, it is clarified that man is a free being, in the anthropological conception, of which

the whole Man is based on will, and will must be free. This thought translates to
a close connection between will and freedom. It also determines seven types of will:
["human","mundanity","alienation","volatility","conformism","transcendence","will"]
freedom.

7
Unit V: Freedom to Act and Main Solutions of Freedom
In this unit, the concept of freedom is given, the implications of the freedom to act are discussed, and they are interpreted.

the principles of determinism of freedom.

Freedom is considered something subject to the divine because man is exempt from it.
responsibilities, that is, the man and the being who enjoys freedom.
The ethical and moral foundations of human action freedom are established norms of what
it is right and what is wrong.

Unit VI: Knowledge as Ethical Value

In this unit, an analysis is made of the ethical value of knowledge, the notion of self-encounter.

as a strategy for virtuous knowledge.

Therefore, a scheme is demonstrated highlighting that the happiness of man is not the work of
perhaps, it is the result of virtuous knowledge or the good ethical values that do not depend on
exterior of the individual, to create a personal effort of human action in seeking the
knowledge of things.
Conhecimento ______ Virtude __________ Liberdade ___________ Felicidade
["Ignorance","Vices","Slavery","Unhappiness"]
Unit VII: Social Responsibility in Human Action
This unit identifies the foundations that influence responsibility.
social, after its definition.
Responsibility is the reciprocal property in the moral subject through which one must feel the
cause or author of the moral act. One should still feel the consequences and the individual must
respond to the cause and the consequences and of the other individuals” (UCM, n.d. p.34).
In moral as well as social responsibility, the analysis of the ethical act is generally evidenced.
and the respective consequences arising from the following principles:

The good act must be good or at least indifferent;

Good understanding should not be acquired through a bad effect;
The bad effect must never be understood in isolation;
A serious provided reason must exist in the bad effect and the harm must be lesser.
Very much for the truth: the responsible man does not let himself be carried away by prejudices or verbal ones.

Try to discover the authentic moral demands whatever they may be, even if they do not
they agree with our tastes or desires. We must be radically sincere.
to accept the true values we find on our path;

8
2. Positive attention to the signs of the times: a responsible man must be extraordinary
sensitive to certain situations in which they live, since through the circumstances they
manifests in a concrete way the plans of life;
3. Awareness of one's own limits: authentic responsibility should not be proud. There is
to become aware of one's own limits and to accept with humanity and responsibility
group, within it one must truly feel active;
4. Overcoming moral ankylosis: the responsible man must avoid at all costs the
the tranquility of consciousness as a stable faculty, due to the habitual disregard of its
moral requirements, this ankylosis can produce negligence, rashness, or bad faith.
Unit VIII: The Good and Moral (Ethical) Systems
In this unit, the definition and classification of the Asset are made; as well as the highlighting of the systems.

moral or ethical.
In the conception of the Good, De Finance is mentioned, which states that ethical good is not a thing by
that's all, but it is an action to practice and that becomes a social knowledge (for pleasure part
of people and to analyze the asset and attribute its quality.
However, it classifies the Good as: metaphysical, physical, moral/ethical, true, apparent, useful,
["pleasant","suitable","intrinsic"]
Regarding moral systems, the source begins by defining morality as a science of
It is well related to ethics and the end of morality and directs human actions in such a way
that man assumes the supreme good. Social ethics lead us to analyze customs and
habits and distinguishing the good from the bad within society.
In social ethics, the person as an actor is the center of the analyses and the essence that is intended.
man attains the Good and becomes happy. The Good for man becomes that which
conditions all behavior and should be considered as the reason for the existence of life in
society and people's behavior should depend on the ideas of Good to ensure the
better social environment.

Unit IX: Consciousness and Ethical Value

In this penultimate unit, the concept of consciousness is presented, its origin, and how to relate it.

with human action.

Consciousness is the ability that man has to immediately know his states,
feelings, impressions, institutions (UCM, n.d.).
It means that consciousness is the act through which man personally recognizes what
must be done in moral order and as proceeded previously in this same order.

9
The rationalists present their version, admitting that the nature of the judgment of consciousness and the

reason or intellect, and that moral and ethical laws are a creation of human reason. There is a
the obligation of the judgment of human conscience that distinguishes between theoretical reason and
practice. In this case, theoretical reason is understood as the natural ability to distinguish truth.
and the error while practical reason is the original and spontaneous movement of essential reason or
principal.
Unit X: Autonomy and Moral Authenticity/Social Commitment
Educational Profession
In this unit, it explains how the individual should live consciously and
explain the current views of ethical concepts in educational activity.
It stands out, however, that the manifestation of the new ethical consciousness is the consternation, where the

man is amazed by nature, by the world, by the successes he achieves and is also a
fear, that is, man lives in a doubtful world without the capacity for reflection on the
good values.
UCM (s.d.) highlights that educational activity, being a social commitment, has its value.
ethical in relation to the transmission of ethical and moral values that ensure the survival of a
society

10
Conclusion
Reaching this stage, it can be concluded that ethics is the reflection on moral behavior.
while Social Ethics is the study of norms, rules, and socially accepted customs. Both
ethos (character) and comomos (customs) indicate a type of behavior proper to
human that is not natural, for man is not born with it as if it were an instinct, but
what is 'acquired or conquered by habit.' For example, the actions socially accepted in
Northern Mozambique (ethical) may seem absurd or bad (immoral) in the south. Hence, the
ethics and morality, by their etymology, relate to a human reality that is constituted and
socially from the collective relationships of human beings in the societies where they are born and
They live. The ultimate end of man is happiness according to the acquired knowledge. The
educational practice should be seen as a social commitment, in the transmission of values
Ethical and moral principles that ensure the survival of society.
