Chapter 1: About PG LAB

The Personal Growth Laboratory (PG Lab) is a unique and experiential learning initiative
designed to help students develop a deeper understanding of themselves and improve their
interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. The PG Lab workshop was conducted at the
commencement of Semester I and played an important role in shaping my mindset for the
MBA journey ahead.

The primary objective of PG Lab is to create self-awareness, enable students to identify

their strengths and weaknesses, and encourage continuous personal and professional
development. Through various structured activities, workshops, and assessments, PG Lab
focuses on holistic growth rather than only academic learning. It emphasizes values,
emotional balance, teamwork, leadership, and effective communication, which are
essential qualities for future managers.

Before attending the PG Lab workshop, my expectations were to gain clarity about my
personality, improve my confidence, and understand how I can work effectively in a team.
I also expected the sessions to help me identify areas where I need improvement to become
a better individual and professional. The workshop successfully met these expectations by
providing a practical and engaging learning environment.

The PG Lab included activities such as Personal SWOT Mapping, Self-Esteem Workshop,
Mindset Workshop, Emotional Intelligence, MBTI Psychometric Assessment, Johari
Window Analysis, and various inbound and outbound group activities. These activities
helped me understand my behavior, emotions, communication style, and approach to
challenges. The experiential learning format made the sessions interactive and impactful.

Overall, PG Lab was a meaningful and enriching experience. It helped me reflect on my

personal values, improve self-awareness, and understand the importance of collaboration
and emotional intelligence in professional life. The learnings from PG Lab will help me
not only during my MBA program but also in my long-term career and personal growth.

5
Chapter 2: Exercises Conducted in PG Lab

The Personal Growth Laboratory included a series of structured inbound and outbound
activities designed to promote self-awareness, emotional intelligence, teamwork, and
leadership skills. Each activity focused on experiential learning and encouraged active
participation, reflection, and collaboration among students. These exercises helped in
translating theoretical concepts into practical understanding. The following sections
describe the purpose, learnings, and challenges associated with each activity conducted
during the PG Lab workshop.

2.1 Setting up Personal Agenda – Personal SWOT Mapping

 Purpose

The purpose of the Personal SWOT Mapping activity was to help me identify my Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats in a structured manner. This activity aimed to
increase self-awareness and enable me to set a clear personal agenda for my academic and
professional development during the MBA program.

 Outcome / Learning

Through this activity, I gained a deeper understanding of my personal and professional

attributes. Identifying my strengths helped me recognize areas where I can perform
confidently, while acknowledging my weaknesses made me aware of aspects that require
improvement. The activity also helped me understand external opportunities that I can
utilize for growth and possible threats that may hinder my progress. Overall, Personal
SWOT Mapping enabled me to set realistic goals and align my actions with my long-term
objectives.

 Challenges

The major challenge during this activity was being honest and self-reflective while
identifying weaknesses and threats. It was initially difficult to critically evaluate myself

6
without bias. However, with guidance from the facilitators and peer interaction, I was able
to overcome this challenge and complete the activity meaningfully.

attitudes and responses to challenges. The activities and discussions helped me reflect
on my own self-beliefs and how they affect my confidence level. I understood that
healthy self-esteem is essential for effective communication, leadership, and handling
feedback positively. The session encouraged me to develop a more positive outlook
towards myself and to believe in my abilities while continuously working on self-
improvement.

One of the main challenges during this workshop was recognizing and accepting
personal self-doubts without feeling uncomfortable. It required honest self-reflection
and openness during discussions. Over time, with guidance from the facilitators and
peer interaction, I was able to overcome hesitation and actively participate in the
session.

7
2.3 Workshop – Mindset

 Purpose
The purpose of the Mindset workshop was to help participants understand the concept
of mindset and its impact on personal growth, learning, and performance. The session
aimed to make us aware of the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset
and how adopting the right mindset can help in overcoming challenges and achieving
long-term success.

 Outcome / Learning
Through this workshop, I learned the importance of having a positive and growth-
oriented mindset. The discussions and activities helped me realize that challenges and
failures are opportunities for learning rather than obstacles. I understood how mindset
influences motivation, adaptability, and decision-making. The workshop encouraged
me to embrace change, accept feedback constructively, and continuously work on
improving my skills and abilities.

 Challenges
One of the challenges during this workshop was identifying and changing existing
thought patterns that limit growth. It required conscious effort to recognize negative
beliefs and replace them with a positive and learning-oriented approach. With the help
of practical examples and group discussions, I was able to understand how to gradually
shift towards a growth mindset.

in personal effectiveness and workplace relationships. The activities and discussions
helped me understand the components of emotional intelligence such as self-
awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. I realized that
managing emotions positively helps in handling conflicts, making better decisions, and
maintaining healthy interpersonal relationships. The session also helped me become
more mindful of my emotional responses in different situation

 Challenges
One of the key challenges during this workshop was identifying emotional triggers and
learning how to regulate emotional reactions in difficult situations. It required honest
reflection and conscious effort to apply emotional intelligence concepts in real-life
scenarios. With continuous practice and guidance, I was able to better understand how
to manage emotions effectively.

9
2.5 Psychometric Assessment – MBTI

 Purpose
The purpose of the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) psychometric assessment
was to help participants understand their personality preferences and behavioral
tendencies. The assessment aimed to provide insights into how individuals perceive
information, make decisions, interact with others, and approach work situations.

 Outcome / Learning
Through the MBTI assessment, I gained a better understanding of my personality type
and its influence on my communication style, decision-making, and teamwork. The
assessment helped me recognize my natural strengths as well as areas that require
conscious improvement. I learned how different personality types work together in a
team and the importance of appreciating diversity in perspectives. This understanding
will help me improve collaboration and adapt my approach in professional
environments.

 Challenges
One of the challenges during the MBTI assessment was answering the questions
honestly and objectively without overthinking. It required self-awareness and clarity
to respond accurately. Understanding the implications of the results also required
reflection, which was supported through facilitator guidance.

10
2.6 Johari Window

 Purpose
The purpose of the Johari Window activity was to enhance self-awareness and improve
interpersonal communication by understanding how individuals perceive themselves
and how they are perceived by others. This activity aimed to help participants recognize
the importance of openness, feedback, and trust in building effective relationships. It
focused on reducing the hidden and blind areas of personality by encouraging honest
communication and self-disclosure in a structured and respectful manner.

 Outcome / Learning
Through the Johari Window activity, I gained valuable insights into my personality
traits, behavior, and communication style. By comparing my self-perception with
feedback received from peers, I became more aware of qualities that were previously
unknown or overlooked. This exercise helped me understand the significance of
constructive feedback and how it contributes to personal growth and self-improvement.
The activity also highlighted the importance of openness in strengthening relationships
and teamwork. As the open area expanded through feedback and self-disclosure, I
realized how transparency and mutual trust can improve collaboration and reduce
misunderstandings. The Johari Window exercise encouraged me to be more receptive
to feedback and to communicate more openly, which will help me build better
professional and interpersonal relationships in the future.

 Challenges
One of the major challenges during this activity was accepting feedback without
becoming defensive or uncomfortable. It required emotional maturity and openness to
acknowledge others’ perceptions. Additionally, sharing personal information in a
11
group setting required trust and confidence. With facilitator guidance and a supportive
group environment, I was able to overcome these challenges and actively engage in the
activity.

2.7 Balloon Pyramid Activity

 Purpose
The purpose of the Balloon Pyramid activity was to develop teamwork, coordination,
leadership, and problem-solving skills among participants. This activity was designed
to highlight the importance of planning, communication, role clarity, and cooperation
while working under time constraints. It aimed to help participants experience team

the Balloon Pyramid activity provided practical insights into team effectiveness and
collective responsibility.

and approaches also posed a challenge; however, through collaboration and open
communication, the team was able to overcome these difficulties.

The purpose of the Learn by Fun activity was to promote experiential learning through
engaging and enjoyable group performances. This activity aimed to help participants
understand that learning can be effective when combined with creativity, collaboration,
and enjoyment. It focused on enhancing teamwork, communication, confidence, and
leadership while encouraging participants to express themselves freely in a group
setting.

 Outcome / Learning

creativity and collaboration in achieving shared objectives. The activity required
coordination, mutual support, and effective communication among team members. It

This activity strengthened my interpersonal skills and reinforced the value of trust and
cooperation within a team. Working together in a relaxed and enjoyable environment
improved bonding among participants and enhanced group harmony. The experience
demonstrated that learning does not always have to be formal and that a positive
environment can significantly improve participation, motivation, and overall

Suggestions
While the overall experience of PG Lab was highly beneficial, a few suggestions can
further enhance its effectiveness. Firstly, extending the duration of certain activities
would allow participants more time for reflection and discussion. Secondly, providing
more real-life case studies and examples during sessions can help participants relate
the concepts to practical managerial situations. Lastly, follow-up sessions or reflection
meetings after the workshop can help students reinforce learning and apply them
consistently throughout the MBA program.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the PG Lab has played an important role in preparing me for the
challenges of the MBA program and future professional responsibilities. The workshop
helped me gain clarity about my strengths, areas of improvement, and behavioral

16
patterns. It also reinforced the importance of emotional balance, teamwork,
