INTRODUCTION
In 2022, an estimated 10.6 million people fell ill with TB globally. India carries an estimated 27% of
the global TB incidence with an estimates 28.2 Lakh people contracting the disease and
approximately 3.4 people succumbing to the disease every year.
The organization will treat TB as a workplace issue because it affects the health of workers and the
productivity of the organization. It has become essential to create a work environment where TB is
addressed and provision of TB services for the workers is made available. A healthy work force
results in higher productivity, making supportive workplace policies mutually beneficial for the
industry and its employees. Institutional policies for TB can play a pivotal role in spreading
awareness, creating a culture of support and inclusion and helping in the prevention and spread of
TB. Every organization assume an accountability to adopt and implement a policy to end TB in their
work place. The following points outline the main pillars that said the standard for TB care at the
work place.
NEED AND ROLE OF PEER EDUCATORS
1. Peer educator should have effective communication skills and leadership qualities and
acceptable by their peer in the work place.
2. He should be aware of the confidential nature od the personal data and the health status of
the employees.
3. He should foster a culture of care towards workers who are affected with TB.
4. Willingness to participate in the TB awareness activities about early diagnose and treatment
facilities, government schemes as organised by the committee.
5. Encourage the employees to participate in TB screening and make sure the employees get
evaluated.
6. Act as a bridge in providing counselling services to their workers and family members.
7. Provide support for treatment adherence and completion.
