Preface
The primary objective of any laboratory/practical/field work is to enhance required skills and
develop the ability among students to solve real-time problems by acquiring relevant
competencies in the psychomotor domain. Keeping this in view, GTU has designed a
competency-focused, outcome-based curriculum for engineering degree programs, where
sufficient weightage is given to practical work. It highlights the importance of skill enhancement
among students and emphasizes the need to utilize every second of time allotted for practical
sessions to achieve relevant outcomes by conducting hands-on experiments, rather than merely
studying theoretical concepts. It is essential for the effective implementation of a competency-
focused, outcome-based curriculum that every practical is carefully designed to serve as a tool
for developing and enhancing the relevant competencies required by various industries among all
students. These psychomotor skills are challenging to develop through traditional chalk-and-
board content delivery methods in the classroom. Accordingly, this lab manual is designed to
focus on industry-defined relevant outcomes, rather than the traditional practice of conducting
practical tests to prove concepts and theories.
By using this lab manual, students can review the relevant theory and procedure in advance of
the actual performance, which creates interest and allows them to develop basic ideas prior to the
performance. This, in turn, enhances predetermined outcomes among students. Each experiment
in this manual begins with competency, industry-relevant skills, course outcomes as well as
practical outcomes (objectives). The students will also learn about the necessary safety
precautions to be taken while performing practical exercises.
This manual also provides guidelines for faculty members to facilitate student-centred lab
activities through each experiment by arranging and managing necessary resources, ensuring that
students follow the procedures with the required safety and precautions to achieve the desired
outcomes. It also gives an idea of how students will be assessed by providing rubrics.
Natural language processing is becoming increasingly important for various types of applications,
including language translation, surveys, and chatbots. This subject introduces the fundamentals
of natural language processing and its applications in various problem domains
Utmost care has been taken in preparing this lab manual; however, there are chances for
improvement. Therefore, we welcome constructive suggestions for improvement and the removal
of any errors.
