 VMware Workstation Pro

 Windows Server 2019 / 2022 ISO

 Windows 10 / 11 ISO (optional client)
 Hyper-V enabled (Windows 10/11 Pro or Server)
 ESXi ISO (Nested Virtualization)

LAB-1: Base Virtualization Setup

Step 1: Install VMware Workstation

1. VMware Workstation install karo

2. Restart system
3. Virtual Network Editor open karo
4. Create:
o VMnet2 (Isolated Network)
o Disable DHCP (optional for full control)

LAB-2: ESXi Host Deployment (Nested)

Step 2: Create ESXi VM

1. New Virtual Machine → Custom

2. Guest OS → VMware ESXi
3. CPU:
o Enable Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT
4. RAM:
o Minimum 8 GB
5. Network:
o VMnet2 (Isolated Switch)
6. Disk:
o 100 GB (Thin Provision)

Step 3: Install ESXi

1. Boot ESXi ISO

2. Complete installation
3. Assign:
o Static IP
o Gateway (if needed)
4. Access ESXi Web Client from browser
LAB-3: Secure App Server (Lab 10 & 11)
Step 4: Create Windows Server VM (Inside ESXi)

1. New VM → Windows Server

2. CPU: 2 vCPU
3. RAM: 4–6 GB
4. Network:
o Isolated vSwitch
5. Disk:
o Stored on local datastore (later iSCSI)

Step 5: Configure RemoteApp / VDI

1. Install Remote Desktop Services

2. Enable:
o RD Session Host
3. Publish:
o Calculator / Notepad (demo app)
4. Create test user accounts

🔐 Security Result:
User sirf app use karega — full desktop access nahi

LAB-4: Isolated Networking (Security Layer)

Step 6: Create Isolated vSwitch

1. ESXi → Networking → Virtual Switches

2. Create new vSwitch
3. No physical NIC attached
4. Attach Windows Server VM

🛡 Result:
Attack spread hone ka chance zero
LAB-5: Storage & Backup Vault (Lab 7)
Step 7: Create iSCSI Target VM

1. New Windows Server VM

2. RAM: 2–4 GB
3. Disk:
o 200 GB (Data disk)
4. Network:
o VMnet2 / Internal

Step 8: Configure iSCSI Target

1. Server Manager → File & Storage Services

2. iSCSI Target Server install
3. Create:
o iSCSI Virtual Disk
4. Assign:
o ESXi initiator IQN
o Hyper-V initiator IQN

LAB-6: Connect ESXi to iSCSI Storage

Step 9: ESXi iSCSI Configuration

1. Storage → Adapters
2. Enable Software iSCSI
3. Add:
o Target IP
4. Rescan storage
5. New datastore visible

📦 Now ESXi + Hyper-V share same storage

LAB-7: Gold Image & Export (Lab 13)

Step 10: Create Gold Image
1. Shutdown Windows Server VM
2. Export VM:
o OVF / OVA
3. Store on iSCSI datastore
4. Mark as Clean Baseline Image

💡 Use: Fast recovery after attack

LAB-8: Snapshot & Instant Recovery (Lab 9)

Step 11: Create Snapshot

1. Power ON VM
2. Take Snapshot:
o Name: Pre-Attack Snapshot
3. Enable memory snapshot (optional)

Step 12: Attack Simulation

1. Login as user
2. Download:
o Dummy malware / EICAR test file
3. Create system changes

Step 13: Revert to Snapshot

1. ESXi → Snapshot Manager

2. Revert to Pre-Attack Snapshot

⚡ Recovery Time: 5–10 seconds

LAB-9: Cold Migration (Lab 8 – V2V)

Step 14: Prepare Hyper-V Host
1. Enable Hyper-V role
2. Create Virtual Switch
3. Connect iSCSI storage

Step 15: Cold Migration Process

1. Shutdown VM in ESXi
2. Export VM
3. Convert disk:
o VMDK → VHDX
4. Import VM into Hyper-V
5. Attach converted disk

🔁 Result: Same VM on new platform

LAB-10: Replica Site & Failover (Lab 12)

Step 16: Enable Hyper-V Replication

1. Primary Hyper-V → Enable Replication

2. Select:
o Replica Hyper-V Host
3. Set:
o Replication interval (5 min)

Step 17: Failover Test

1. Simulate ESXi failure

2. Trigger Failover
3. Start Replica VM
4. Validate application access

🟢 Business Continuity Achieved

FINAL VALIDATION CHECKLIST

✔ Virus removed via snapshot
✔ VM migrated cross-platform
✔ Replica activated successfully
✔ Zero data loss
✔ Minimal downtime
