Page 1: Foreword and Safety Introduction
The manual is designed to help owners become acquainted with
the groundbreaking technology and premium quality features of
the 2023 Audi Q5. Audi recommends reading the manual
thoroughly to maintain the vehicle's value and drive in an
environmentally friendly manner. A significant safety warning
highlights that operating or maintaining the vehicle can expose
users to chemicals like engine exhaust, carbon monoxide, and
lead, which are known in California to cause cancer or
reproductive harm. To minimise exposure, it is advised not to idle
the engine unnecessarily and to perform services in well-
ventilated areas.
Page 2: Using the Owner's Manual
This section defines the symbols used throughout the guide to
categorise information. A triangle with an exclamation mark
denotes a WARNING, providing information on how to reduce the
risk of serious personal injury or death. An exclamation mark in a
circle indicates a Note, which warns of potential damage to the
vehicle. A leaf symbol identifies information regarding
environmental protection, while an "i" symbol provides additional
useful tips.
Page 3: Cockpit Overview (Left Side)
The cockpit layout includes essential controls for the driver. The
door handle and central locking switches are located on the door
panel. The multi-function steering wheel features the horn,
driver’s airbag, and various operating buttons for the instrument
cluster. To the left of the steering wheel, levers are provided for
turn signals, high beams, and assistance systems like Audi active
lane assist and traffic jam assist.
Page 4: Cockpit Overview (Right Side and Centre)
The centre console houses the MMI (Multi Media Interface)
display and the climate control system. Depending on
equipment, buttons are available for Audi drive select, the
Start/Stop system, and Electronic Stabilization Control (ESC).
The centre armrest may include storage compartments and a cup
holder. Below the MMI, there are USB ports with charging
functions and a 12-volt socket.
Page 5: Red Warning Lights
Red indicator lights signify high-priority warnings that require
immediate attention. Key symbols include the Central indicator
light, which directs the driver to check messages in the
instrument cluster. The Cooling system light indicates that the
coolant temperature is too high or the level is too low. Other red
indicators warn of Safety belt issues, Transmission
malfunctions, or problems with the Brake system and
Electromechanical parking brake.
Page 6: Yellow Indicator Lights (System Checks)
Yellow lights generally indicate a malfunction or that a system is
active. These include the Central indicator light for lower-priority
messages and the Engine speed limitation light. Indicators for
the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stabilization
Control (ESC) inform the driver of the status of stability systems.
Yellow warnings also cover Tire pressure issues and Engine oil
level (MIN) requirements.
Page 7: Assistance System Indicators
Specific icons represent the status of active safety features.
Symbols for Efficiency assist, Adaptive cruise control, and
Traffic jam assist appear in the display to inform the driver of
current regulation status. If the Distance warning light appears, it
indicates that the vehicle is following the car ahead too closely.
Page 8: Instrument Cluster Overview
The vehicle may be equipped with an Audi virtual cockpit or an
analog instrument cluster. The cluster displays the Tachometer
(engine speed), Speedometer, and Fuel level. A central area
provides space for various "tabs," such as vehicle functions,
radio/media, telephone, and navigation. If a serious system
malfunction occurs, the display may turn off entirely.
Page 9: Operating the Instrument Cluster
Drivers can navigate the cluster using the left side of the multi-
function steering wheel. The VIEW button allows the driver to
switch between the "default" view and an "enhanced" view. The
left thumbwheel is used to scroll through lists and select
functions by pressing it. A "Back" button enables the user to
return to higher-level menus.
Page 10: Tachometer and Engine Limitations
The tachometer displays engine speed in RPM. The red zone
indicates the maximum permissible engine speed once the
engine is broken in. An Engine speed limitation function may
automatically limit RPM to protect components during cold starts
or overheating. If this limitation is caused by a malfunction, the
EPC indicator light will also illuminate.
Page 11: Coolant and Temperature Displays
The coolant temperature display only functions when the ignition
is on. In the "cold range," the engine has not yet reached operating
temperature, and high engine speeds should be avoided. The
"normal range" is reached when the LEDs are in the centre of the
gauge. Outside temperature is shown in the status bar, and a
snowflake symbol appears if the temperature drops below 41 °F
(+5 °C).
Page 12: Odometer and Engine Oil Indicators
The Odometer shows the total distance driven, while the Trip
odometer measures shorter distances since the last reset. To
reset the trip odometer to zero, the driver must press the reset
button. The Engine oil temperature indicator provides a bar in
the cluster; normal operating temperatures range between 176 °F
(80 °C) and 248 °F (120 °C).
Page 13: Trip Computer and Energy Consumers
The trip computer is found in the first tab of the cluster and
includes the on-board computer. It provides data on average
consumption, range, and digital speed. An Energy consumers
view lists equipment currently affecting fuel consumption, such
as the air conditioning, with the highest power users shown first.
Page 14: MMI Touch Display Operation
The centre display is a touchscreen that operates similarly to a
smartphone. Basic gestures include Pressing to select a
function, Pressing and holding to access options, and Dragging
to scroll through menus. Users can also use two fingers to Zoom
in or out of maps and Rotate 3D displays.
Page 15: MMI Settings and Safety
The MMI can be switched on or off by pressing and holding the
On/Off knob. For safety, Audi recommends only entering
destinations or pairing mobile devices while the vehicle is
stationary. The Overview screen is the primary menu page,
displaying information tiles for media, time, and phone that can
be rearranged or replaced by the user.

Analogy for Understanding the 2023 Q5 Digital Interface: Think
of the Instrument Cluster as your "Executive Dashboard,"
providing high-speed updates on your vehicle's health (like oil and
speed), while the MMI Touch Display acts as your "Personal
Assistant," handling your entertainment, navigation, and detailed
comfort settings. Just as a smartphone requires specific gestures
to navigate, the MMI uses swipes and pinches to put you in
control of the vehicle's environment.
