DESCRIPTION

1. INFORMATION
WARNING: Do not operate the engines while the airplane is raised on jacks.
The airplane can be raised on jacks at three points, their locations being one at each wing root leading edge,
and one at the rear of the fuselage.
Raising of the landing gear wheels for servicing purposes can be achieved by using a bottle jack at the
appropriate leg. The jacking pads for this jack are integral parts of the gear leg assemblies.

1. INFORMATION
WARNING: When an airplane has experienced abnormal or emergency landing gear procedures of
any type, including an unsafe landing gear indication or emergency extension of the
landing gear, place the airplane on jacks prior to performing any inspection or
maintenance.
WARNING: Make sure that all three landing gears are down and locked with the locking pins installed
(Ref. 10-00-00, 201), prior to removing the airplane from jacks.
WARNING: Make sure that the thrust reversers are correctly pinned in the stowed or deployed
positions before raising or lowering the airplane (Ref. 78-30-00, 201).
CAUTION: For airplanes with total temperature sensor units installed, open, safety clip and tag the circuit
breaker, TAS PROBE HEATER, on panel DA before the airplane is raised (Ref. 24-01-00, 201).

2. JACK THE COMPLETE AIRPLANE

A. Limitations
Weight of airplane - 25,255 lb (11,455 kg) maximum.
NOTE: Do not jack the airplane in wind strengths greater than 20 knots. If the airplane is to be jacked
in the open, it must be head into wind. Jack only on a good hard standing.
NOTE: Before jacking, the fuel load in each wing must be equalized.

B. Raise the Airplane

(1) Unlock the Camloc fasteners and hinge open the wing jacking point access panels; remove the
rear jacking point fairing (rear fuselage frame 25).

(2) Put a (wing point) jack in position at each wing jacking point (Ref. Figure 201). Install the jacking
pads to wing jacking sockets and adapter heads to jacks.

(3) Align each jack with its related jacking pad and lift the jack transporter wheels clear of the ground.

(4) Make sure that the jacks stand firmly on their bases and extend the jacks until the adapter heads
engage with the jacking pads. Make sure the jacks are vertical.

(5) Make sure that the jacking area and the area above the airplane, particularly the horizontal
stabilizer, are free from obstruction, and the landing gear locking pins are installed.

(6) Isolate the airplane emergency batteries.

(a) In the rear equipment bay, get access to the No. 3, 4 and 5 emergency batteries. Open
safety clip and tag the two circuit breakers CB1 and CB2 on each battery.

(b) On the rear avionics rack, in the passenger cabin, open safety clip and tag the two circuit
breakers CB1 and CB2 on the No. 6 emergency battery.

NOTE: Paragraph 2.B. (6) is the normal method of isolating the emergency batteries for
normal jacking operations.
CAUTION: Paragraph 2.B. (7) is only to be used to isolate the emergency batteries for short term
jacking with power on the airplane, when no maintenance is being done on or near an
electrical source.

(7) On panel DA-D, open safety clip and tag the circuit breakers AVN AUX LH and AVN AUX RH.

(8) Set the airplane brakes off, and remove the chocks.

(9) Extend wing jacks at the same time until airplane is level. As jack rams extend screw down lock
collars.

CAUTION: Do not place rear jack in position until airplane is level (Ref. 08-00-00, 201).

(10) Put a rear point jack in position at the rear jacking point. If a four-legged jack is being used position
the jack as shown (Ref. Figure 201). If a tripod jack is being used, position forward leg on, and two
rear legs equally disposed about, the airplane center line. Instal jacking pad to jacking point and
adapter to head.

(11) Align the rear jack with the jacking pad and lift the transporter wheels clear of ground. Make sure
that the jack stands firmly on its legs and extend the jack until the adapter head engages with the
jacking pad.

(12) Extend all three jacks at the same time so that the airplane remains level. As the jack rams extend,
screw down the lock collars.

(13) Continue to raise the airplane until the main wheels are approximately three inches clear of the
ground and the airplane is level.

(14) Lock the jack rams by screwing down the lock collars.

(15) If the airplane is to be subjected to fuel system servicing, necessitating full or part draining of the
system from one wing, instal trestles under each wing at rib 5 (Ref. Figure 201).

C. Lower the Airplane

CAUTION: Make sure that the wheel brakes are OFF before the airplane is lowered.

(1) Make sure that the fuel loads in each wing are equal.

(2) Remove all the trestles and any equipment likely to obstruct the airplane when it is lowered.

(3) Make sure that the landing gear is locked down and that the locking pins are installed.

(4) Extend each jack slightly to relieve the load on the ram lock collar. Partially unscrew the collar.

(5) Operate each jack pressure release valve at the same time to make sure that the jacks retract
together. Follow the jack rams with the lock collars.

CAUTION: Move the tail jack clear of the airplane as soon as the jack is unloaded. Any difference
between lowering rates at the main jacks causes tail movement, with the possibility
that the tail jack may foul the airplane structure.

(6) When the weight of the airplane is taken on the landing gear, put chocks to the front and rear of
the wheels and, if possible, apply the airplane brakes.

(7) Retract the jack rams, lower the transporter wheels, and move the jacks clear of the airplane.

(8) Remove the jacking pads from the airplane sockets.

(9) Instal the wing jacking point access panels, install the tail jacking point fairing.

(10) If paragraph 2.B. (6) was done, return the airplane emergency batteries to service.

(a) In the rear equipment bay, get access to the No. 3, 4 and 5 emergency batteries. Remove
the safety clips and tags and close the circuit breakers CB1 and CB2 on each battery.

(b) On the rear avionics rack in the passenger cabin, remove the safety clips and tags and close
the circuit breakers CB1 and CB2 on the No. 6 emergency battery.

(11) If paragraph 2.B. (7) was done, on panel DA-D remove the safety clips and tags and close the
circuit breakers AVN AUX LH and AVN AUX RH.

(12) For airplanes with total temperature sensor units installed:

On panel DA, remove the safety clip and tag and close the circuit breaker TAS PROBE HEATER
(Ref. 24-01-00, 201).

D. Close Up
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other equipment.

3. JACK THE MAIN OR NOSE GEAR WHEELS

A. Limitations
Weight of the airplane - up to maximum take-off weight.
The jack can be put in position if one or both tires are deflated provided the distorted tires permit its
correct positioning, (Ref. Figure 202) if not, it will be necessary to raise the wheels by insertion of
wooden blocks under the tires or by normal jacking

B. Raise and Lower the Main or Nose Gear Wheels

(1) Position chocks to the front and rear of wheels not being serviced.

(2) Position the jack and extend the jack ram to engage the jacking head with the leg jacking pad.

(3) Extend the jack until the wheels are clear of the ground.

(4) When the wheel servicing is completed, operate the release valve to retract the jack.

(5) Remove the jack, put chocks front and rear of the wheels and, if required, apply the brakes.
