DIY CO2 to Oxygen Generator Project

The document outlines a project aimed at converting carbon dioxide (CO2) into oxygen (O2) to address climate change issues. The researchers propose building a DIY oxygen generator using common materials to demonstrate this conversion process. The project emphasizes the importance of reducing CO2 emissions and generating oxygen as a sustainable solution to environmental problems.

PROBLEMATIC:
The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is a topic of great importance and relevance
Currently, carbon dioxide (CO2) is a greenhouse gas that
contributes to global warming and climate change. As
we increased CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels and
other industrial processes, the concentration of this gas in the atmosphere also
increase.
This increase in CO2 has significant consequences for our planet. The
global warming causes changes in weather patterns, increases the
frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as storms, droughts
flooding, and causes the rise in sea level. Moreover, the increase in
CO2 in the oceans is causing their acidification, which negatively affects
marine ecosystems and marine life.
2: STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

How to demonstrate converting CO2 (carbon dioxide) into oxygen?

3. HYPOTHESIS:
It is hypothesized that, by developing efficient catalysts and mechanisms of
adequate reactions, it is possible to achieve the effective conversion of carbon dioxide
CO2 into oxygen (O2), which will result in a significant decrease in the
CO2 emissions and a measurable increase in oxygen levels in
environment.

2
OBJECTIVE:
GENERAL OBJECTIVE:
To convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, an idea that could mitigate impacts.
from climate change by addressing both the reduction of CO2 emissions and the
generation of vital oxygen for life on Earth. The conversion of CO2 to oxygen
it represents an interesting and challenging concept in the search for sustainable solutions
for the environmental problems that we currently experience throughout the region and the country.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE:
1: Build a DIY oxygen generator
2: Show that it is possible to convert CO2 into Oxygen
3: With the project aiming for the future to transform CO2 into Oxygen.

3
ACTIVITY: Project Design
Materials:
1Plastic bottle
1L transparent envelope
sodium bicarbonate
An 85 mL bottle of vinegar
2transparent disposable cups
(regular size) 1 optional balloon
1 lid or cap for the
bottle1 Scissors
1 dessert spoon

Steps for experimentation:

1. Bottle Preparation:

- Wash and rinse the transparent plastic bottle well.

- The bottle must be completely dry before proceeding.

4
Preparation of the mixture: - In the disposable cup, we add a tablespoon of
baking soda with 5ml of vinegar and mix. This mixture will generate
carbon dioxide (CO2).

We carefully poured from the disposable cup the

mix of baking soda and vinegar in the
bottle, filling approximately a quarter of the
bottle.

3. Balloon Inflation:

The opening of the balloon is placed over the top of the

bottle without leaving the contents of baking soda and
vinegar enters the balloon.

4. Reaction and Observation:

6
- Once the balloon is in place, tilt the
bottle for the baking soda and vinegar to enter
in contact

- It is observed how the balloon begins to inflate.

measure that is it releases carbon dioxide inside the
globe. The CO 2 is a byproduct of the chemical reaction
between baking soda and vinegar.
