The recommendations below are based on the NBR 13543 - Dec 1995 standard.
Receiving inspection
Must ensure that the material is as requested and has a quality certificate issued by
manufacturer. In addition to this inspection, the slings, when in service, must be frequently inspected by the
Operator of the equipment is periodically done by a qualified person.
Visual inspection
The ties must be visually inspected for defects or deterioration before each series of
movement. They should also undergo a complete routine inspection by a qualified person.
If there are doubts regarding the safety conditions of the material, it must be removed from service and
submitted to full inspection.
During the inspection, one should check for the existence of:
broken wires;
cable distortion;
• damage to the locking mechanism, clips, or accessories;
excessive wear;
heat damage;
corrosion.
Complete inspection
It should be done at intervals not exceeding six months. This interval should be reduced when necessary, based on service conditions.
Broken wires can cause injuries to the user, as well as reduce the load capacity of the
loop. They usually arise from mechanical damage, although they can also occur due to corrosion. When distributed
uniformly, they may not have a significant impact on the load capacity of the loop, but they can indicate the
existence of corrosion or mechanical damage. The loss of load capacity caused by corrosion or damage.
mechanical issues are generally more critical than the loss of load capacity resulting from broken wires.
To prevent injuries to users, the exposed wires must be removed from the loop by breaking them at the base.
After a thorough inspection, it is recommended to replace the service loop when the following are detected:
ten broken wires, randomly distributed over any length of six times the diameter of the
cable;
b) five broken wires on the same leg at any length of six times the diameter of the cable;
c) more than one broken wire inside the cable, at any length of six times the diameter of
cable.
The loop must be replaced when there is a reduction equal to or greater than 10% in the value of its nominal diameter.
Corrosion can occur when the loop is improperly stored or used in conditions
especially corrosive, such as in the movement of loads in and out of acidic and alkaline baths. The
the effect of corrosion is easily identified by the loss of flexibility and the increase in roughness. Although
a slight surface corrosion does not affect the load capacity of the loop, it may be an indication of
internal corrosion of unpredictable effects.
The loop must be discarded when folding, crushing, and collapse of the core occurs. However, in certain
Under certain circumstances, permanent deformations may occur without necessarily affecting the strength of the bond.
This analysis should be done by a qualified person. In case of doubts regarding the acceptance of
deformation, contact our technical department.
When exposed to excessive temperature for a long time, the loop may lose its load capacity.
significantly reduced. Evidence of overheating may be discoloration of the wires loss
of
lubrication or trace of electric arc. When these conditions are identified, the loop must be removed
of service and subjected to complete inspection.
In the inspection of the accessories, clips, and braids, the following must be noted:
a) evidence of opening, distortion, or cracks in the hook;
b) distortion and wear of the load ring or closure of the shoes;
c) notches on the clip;

d) severe abrasion or deformation of the clip or braid;
e) clip or braid coming loose;
f) breaking of the eye socket base due to the use of an excessively large pin or certain types of shoe;
broken wires on the external surface of the eyelet, caused, for example, by the use of a small pin
diameter and eyelet without shoe;
h) friction effect on the contact surface of the eye without the shoe.

Fixing the loop
The eye or bow accessory must be properly accommodated on the hook, never at its end.
it must be free to lean in any direction, and must be free from twists and knots.
The loop set is subject to variations in effort that increase when there is a change in the angle.
between the legs. This variation can reach 60º with the vertical. It must be ensured that the load to be
moving should be able to withstand the applied effort with safety.
The place where the load will be positioned must be prepared. It should be ensured that the floor has
resistance to absorb weight, taking into account parts that may be damaged. It can be
It is necessary to provide a wooden or similar support to prevent the loop from being pressed.
between the floor and the load or to provide stability for the load when it is positioned.
Plan the movement before it starts. Inspect the material to detect if there are any issues.
Is there any abnormality, such as: deformations, broken wires, distortion, cuts, wear, etc...
It is necessary to ensure that the load is suitable for lifting with the loop. When the loop is
fixed to the load, the points used for fixation (for example, eyelets) must be suitable for the
lifting of the load.
The mass of the load to be lifted must be verified. It is essential that the mass of the load be
known. If the load does not have its mass identification, it must be obtained through
manuals, drawings, etc. If this information is not available, the mass of the load must be assessed.
After choosing the survey method, one must choose the most appropriate surveying material.
adequate, compatible with the load, environment, and handling conditions.
The person responsible for the lift must ensure that the loop is in good condition. The loop must be discarded if it shows damage, deterioration, or with
any deformation that could compromise the safety of the lifting.
The person responsible for the lift must ensure that the load is balanced when lifted. The slings must be attached at the points designed for the
load lifting. If these points are not marked on the load, the center of gravity position should be used. The type of loop and the lifting method
used
must ensure that the load does not slip.
Ensure that the load to be lifted does not contain loose elements. The loop should not be fixed to the load securing element, except when the element is
designed for this purpose.
It must be ensured that the load is free to move without any type of obstruction. Lift the load a few centimeters and check if the load is stable.
in the proper position. If the load tilts during lifting, it must be lowered and repositioned. This can be done by repositioning the attachment points.
or by
use of stretchers or extenders on one or more legs, which must be used according to the manufacturer's instructions for the accessory.
Strong accelerations and decelerations should be avoided, as they cause increased tension.
in the legs of the loop due to the dynamic forces that are added under these conditions.
Careful
Hands and other body parts should be kept away from the loop to prevent bruising.
for example, the top part of the loop when the load is ready for lifting.
Remember to always wear gloves when handling the rope.
The operator should never leave their position at the controls when a load is present.
suspended in any area where there is access to people. It should also be ensured that all
the people involved in the operation can see and communicate with each other. All personnel must be
away from the load; otherwise, special care must be taken when starting the
lifting and controlling the load.
Never leave the suspended load unattended or move the load with people on it. When using the sling set, if any leg is not used, the
It must be fixed on the ring.
The load must be secured by the loop in such a way that it does not tip over or fall during lifting. The attachment point must be directly above the center of gravity.
in such a way that the load is lifted or lowered evenly.
The loop or parts of it should not be caught under the load or dragged on the ground. When not in use, the loops should be kept in a location:
clean, dry, well-ventilated, at room temperature and kept on suitable supports or shelves.
They should not be left on the ground, where they can be damaged. The ties that are no longer used for some time should be cleaned, dried, and protected against the
corrosion.
When being discarded, the ties should be cut at the base of the eyelet, as they may be reused in times of need, potentially causing accidents.
