Industry Scenario
1.1 Therapy overview
In the month of Oct’24, the Indian Pharmaceutical Market (IPM) showcased impressive value
growth, reaching a market value of 19,610 Cr. This represents a 6.06% increase in value and
an incremental gain of 1122 Cr compared to the previous period. On a moving annual total
(MAT) basis, the market hit 2,18,502 Cr, reflecting an 7.7% year-over-year growth and a
compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.4%, indicating robust and sustained expansion in
the sector.
Key therapeutic areas that have driven this growth are Cardiac, Gastrointestinal, Anti-diabetic,
Neuro/ CNS, Derma, Ophthal/ Otologicals, Urology, Stomatologicals and Sex Stimulants/
Rejuvenators and have showcased a notable growth performance in both sales value and
volumes. Additionally, segments such as Blood related, Gynaecological and Hormones have
experienced value growth rates relatively better than the overall market.

1.2 Growth drivers
The overall growth of 6.1% for the month of Oct’24 is majorly contributed by Price and NI where
pricing continues to drive the market. The volumes have slowed down for the month amongst
majority of the therapies except Cardiac, Derma, Ophthal/ Otologicals, Urology, Hormones and
Sex Stimulants/ Rejuvenators.
Price hikes continue to play an important role in price growth of IPM contributed by all the
therapies. Among the 70% contributing therapies, the highest price hike of 6.5% is seen in
Gastro Intestinal therapy followed by Cardiac and Vit/ Min/ Nutr.

The graphical plot above represents the zonal progression in terms of value in the month of
Oct’24 over the last 5 periods.
The zonal skew for the IPM in Oct'24 has continued to show a dispersion of S-N-W-E in terms
of value and N-S-W-E in units. On a value basis, almost equivalent spread ranging between
22% - 25% is exhibited by all the four zones.
Whilst all 4 zones have demonstrated positive value growth; West zone continued to exhibit
the highest value growth of 9.2%.
Regions like Delhi, Rajasthan, and Haryana have continued to outperform in the North zone.
Within the West zone, Gujarat, Mumbai MMR, Pune and South Maharashtra showcased
positive uptake in both value and volumes.
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have demonstrated healthy value growth for the month amongst
South zone. Odisha in the East zone has shown promising growth for the month of Oct’24.

Acute/Chronic Split
2.1 Monthly trend
In the month of Oct’24, positive value growth was seen across all the segments with chronic
segment showcasing positive volume growth.
A sales incremental of 1122 Cr has been added to the IPM over the month SPLY with chronic
therapy contributing 49% to the incremental value followed by sub chronic segment with 24%.

2.2 Market dominance
2.2.1 Acute segment
Acute portfolio holding ~47% distribution over the last 5 years has contributed to 9160 Cr sales
in the IPM for month of Oct’24. A value growth of 2.6% has been registered by the acute
segment with an incremental value of 236 Cr.
Among the top 5 corporates, Sun* continues to lead the market while Alkem*, Abbott* and Cipla
have moved up to secure 2nd, 4th and 5th position majorly due to their pillar brands exhibiting
an encouraging traction for the month. Dr. Reddys has gained a rank from its immediate
competitor in the acute segment. Corporates namely, Torrent, Intas and FDC have
demonstrated an outstanding performance for the month in acute segment gaining ranks to
secure 14th, 16th and 19th position in the top 20 leaderboard.
Brands like Clavam, Pan D, Udiliv and Zerodol SP among the top 10 brands have shown a
relatively higher value growth than the segment for the month of Oct’24.
Within the next 30 players, La Renon, Cadila, Allergan, Corona, Reliance, Bayer, and Roche
have exhibited an incredible performance over the last year in acute therapy and have been
able to gain significant ranks. A remarkable performance has been portrayed by Samarth LS
with its robust value growth to climb up the ladder by nine ranks.

2.2.2 Chronic segment
Chronic segment, contributing to ~32% of the IPM value with 6243 Cr growing at 9.7% by value
and added an incremental value 553 Cr for the month.
Among the top 5 players, all the corporates have maintained their positions for the month.
Glenmark has gained one rank securing 10th position from its immediate competitor. Micro, and
Aristo have gained ranks to secure 13th, and 18th rank respectively.
Within the next 30 players, AstraZeneca, Merck, Bayer, Systopic, Unison, Akumentis and Med
Manor have exhibited an incredible performance over the last year in chronic therapy and have
been able to gain significant ranks. Similarly, corporates like GSK, La Renon, Lloyd HC, and
Janssen have gained one rank each.
Mixtard, Ryzodeg, Thyronorm and Rybelsus have shown commendable value growth for the
month amongst the top 10 brands in chronic category.

2.2.3 Sub-chronic segment
The sub-chronic category contributing 21% by value to the IPM has recorded a sales value of
4026 Cr growing at value growth of 7%.
Sun* has secured the 1st position by gaining two ranks and a market share of 0.6% for the
month of Oct’24. GSK has gained ranks to move up to the 8th position leveraging its positive
value growth. Nutricia International Pvt. Ltd. and Pfizer, with commendable growths for the
month, have earned significant ranks.
Hegde & Hegde, Micro, Galderma, Akumentis, UNS, Wockhardt, Ajanta and Pure & Cure
healthcare have gained two or more ranks among the next 50 corporates leveraging their
double-digit value growth performance in the month of Oct’24. Additionally, KLM has exhibited
encouraging value and volume growth fostering its gain of seven ranks in the segment.

New Introduction dynamics
4.1 Therapy wise new introductions
5032 New Introductions (SKUs) have a value contribution of 2709 Cr and this contributes 1.2%
to the IPM (MAT Oct’24). For the Month of Oct’24, NIs have contributed 2.4 % to IPM, with 391
new SKUs / Brands being launched in Oct’24. The past 2 months have seen below average
launches in terms of SKUs in the IPM.
The top 5 therapies with the highest number of new SKU launches (MAT Oct’24) are Derma,
Anti-diabetic, Gastrointestinal, Cardiac and Vit/ Min/ Nutr.

4.2 NI behavior – Subgroups
26 new subgroups – plains and combinations are launched in the last 12 months. Anti-diabetics
and Respiratory supergroup have seen the maximum number of newly launched subgroups.
The highest value contributing Supergroup is Gastro Intestinal, followed by Respiratory
therapy.

4.3 Blockbuster new introductions
NI brand’s contribution remains constant at 1% contribution to the total sales turnover of the
IPM for the month of Oct’24.
Launched in different therapies, 25 brands listed below have managed to tick off a remarkable
benchmark of more than one crore for the month and their contribution remains constant at
27% of the monthly NI value.
