THE COMPUTER

The computer functions to manipulate

information, regardless of its type. The
computer is a machine that allows the
user performs mathematical calculations, research,
general work etc., using programs
specific.

The computer works with two distinct parts:

HARDWARE = A PARTE FÍSICA DA MÁQUINA (AS PEÇAS)

SOFTWARE = THE LOGICAL PART OF THE MACHINE (THE PROGRAMS)

1. The Essential Components of a Computer

Essential Component is one that cannot be missing in the assembly of a

computer, because without it, the machine does not work. The main
Components of a computer are: Motherboard, Processor (CPU),
Memória principal (RAM), Dispositivos de entrada, Dispositivos de saída.

Input devices are the hardware components that allow for

data insertion and commands for them to be processed by the
computer, being able to capture and send information provided by the
user for the machine to perform tasks. Example: Keyboard,
mouse, scanner, Webcam.

Output devices - are responsible

to display the processing results
after the insertion of the data or commands by
user. Example: Monitor, printer,
sound box, video projector.

Basic concepts

Operating System: a program that controls and coordinates all the

basic operations of your computer, in addition to providing the interface between the
machine and the user.

File: set of related characters that remain

stored on a device (disk or media, for example),
representing software (program) or a document (user data,
such as text, image, video, etc.) and can have extensions and sizes
different. Therefore, everything on the computer is stored in the form of
Files, whether programs, texts, images, spreadsheets, music, videos, etc.

Folder: a place where we store and organize files. Folders are like
“gavetas” no HD, é um modo de armazenamento fornecido pelo Windows
Explorer. A Folder can contain Files and other Folders within it and the
user can manipulate them.

Workspace: the place where the following resources are made available:

Icons: shortcuts that enable quicker access to resources

the programs available on the computer.
Taskbar: the main bar that appears at the bottom of the
initial screen. All programs, applications, Folders are visible on it
and the files that are active (in use). On the right side, usually,
the clock and some control buttons are visualized. On the left side,
we have the Start button, which shows all the programs of your
computer, and some shortcut keys.

Desktop configuration: Just right-click on the

mouse over it or pressing the "Windows key" once on

most used.

system information, in addition to the current date and time.

Never let yourself be carried away by the waves of pessimism or discouragement.

life is much more beautiful for those who row against the tide and

surpasses the waves.

Dreaming is very good and is part of the essence of being human.

but making these very dreams a reality is only for those who
