Unless otherwise advised by the manufacturer, the following procedures are recommended:
Always fit a new timing belt after removal
Coolant pump renewal is recommended after timing belt removal
Check the tensioner and idler pulleys; renew if necessary
Never turn the engine in the direction opposite to that of normal operation
Check the belt(s) for cracks, fraying, wear and oil contamination
Note: The engine must be cold before timing belt adjustment
Note: Avoid bending, torsion or traction
General
Before disconnecting the battery cable, check the audio system security code
Removal
Turn the ignition off
Wait for 15 minutes
The control unit's self-learning pattern is now stored in memory
Disconnect the battery
Battery: procedures for disconnection/reconnection
Remove the front right wheel
Remove the front right splash guard
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation
Use a hoist to support the engine

Before disconnecting the battery cable, check the audio system security code
Without disconnecting the system, place the power steering line aside
Removal
Turn the ignition off
Wait for 15 minutes
The control unit's self-learning pattern is now stored in memory
Disconnect the battery
Battery: procedures for disconnection/reconnection
Remove the front right wheel
Remove the front right splash guard
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation
Use a hoist to support the engine
Remove the timing belt upper cover
Note: Do not loosen the coolant pump bolts

Remove the crankshaft pulley
Remove the front right wheel
Note: Never remove the crankshaft pulley without locking the crankshaft and the camshafts
Remove the front right splash guard
Remove the timing belt lower cover
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation
Turn the tensioner pulley clockwise
Use a hoist

Remove the tensioner pulley locking tool 0189-S1
Ensure the tensioner pulley locking pin is still in position 0189-S2
Removal

Disconnect the battery

Remove the front right wheel

Fit the clamp 0189-K
Fit the timing belt in the sequence shown b->c->d->e->f

Pre-tension the timing belt
Ancillary drive belt: removal/installation
Turn the tensioner anti-clockwise to the maximum timing belt tension
Use a hoist to support the engine

Note: If the tensioner marker does not reach the position shown (arrow), the tensioner pulley must be renewed
Turn the tensioner pulley clockwise until the pointer is positioned as shown
Tighten the tensioner pulley mounting bolt 21 Nm
Remove the inlet camshaft locking tool 0189-A
Remove the crankshaft locking pin 0189-R
Rotate
Removalthe crankshaft clockwise by 10 turns
