Siemens offers simulation software to plan, simulate and optimize plants and machines. The simulation- and optimization-
results are only non-binding suggestions for the user. The quality of the simulation and optimizing results depend on the
correctness and the completeness of the input data. Therefore, the input data and the results have to be validated by the user.

2.3 Installing SIMIT

For installation please launch [Link] on your SIMIT installation CD in the SIMIT folder. If
your computer does not have the required .NET framework installed, the setup program will
notify you and you need to install the required .NET framework first. To do so, launch the
program dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe in the NET4.0 folder on your SIMIT-CD. After
installing the .NET framework please relaunch the installation program.
During installation of SIMIT please follow instructions as provided by the installation
program. There is no internet access required to install SIMIT.
In case you have SIMIT 7.1 newly acquired, your SIMIT Standard, Professional or Ultimate
license is contained on the dongle.
In case you are upgrading SIMIT V7.0 to version 7.1, you are required to enter a new license
key during installation. Please contact [Link]@[Link] in order to
get this license key. In that eMail please provide your dongle number as well as the security
code that was delivered to you.
In case you have additional libraries acquired, you need to get a license key for these
libraries as well, in the way as described above.
You may enter these license keys during installation as well as at any point in time later by
starting the installation program again and choosing the option “Install license key” (Figure
2-1).

Figure 2-1: SIMIT Maintenance Mode

After startup, SIMIT launches several processes which communicate via TCP. Please
configure your computer in such a way that not only the administrator but all users working
with SIMIT are permitted to communicate. Addresses used can be found in the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Siemens\SIMIT7\SIMIT in the entries uri, aruri and
cteuri.

Common questions

Powered by AI

Ignoring precautionary measures during SIMIT installation can result in the software not responding as described and may lead to errors or incomplete installations. User errors like not following system permission requirements or failing to install prerequisite software such as the .NET framework can render the software unusable . Furthermore, improper handling of hardware peripherals like the USB dongle can result in activation failures or system incompatibility .

Critical warnings include being logged on as an administrator to install the software, exiting SIMIT before performing firmware updates to avoid system damage, never switching off the interface module during firmware updates as it may result in irreparable damage, and ensuring communication permissions are set for all users who need to work with SIMIT .

To handle firmware updates safely, users must exit SIMIT before loading any firmware update into the interface module. It is crucial not to switch off the interface module during the update, which can last up to 30 minutes, as this could result in irreparable damage or data loss . Once the update is complete, the interface module must be reset. Users should then exit SIMBApro, relaunch SIMIT, and reload the interface module with current project data .

Using the correct firmware update file is important to ensure compatibility and proper functionality of the SIMIT interface modules. Different modules such as the IM-PBDP and IM-PNIO require specific update files, as indicated in Tables 4-1 and 4-2 of the document, to align with the hardware configurations of each interface module .

If the .NET framework is missing during the installation of SIMIT, the setup program will notify the user. The user should then install the required .NET framework by launching the program dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe located in the NET4.0 folder on the SIMIT-CD. After installing the .NET framework, the user should relaunch the SIMIT installation program .

When uninstalling SIMIT, users should ensure that their workspace does not contain any files they might still need. During uninstallation, all the files and registry entries created during installation will be removed; therefore, users must verify that they have backups of any necessary data before proceeding .

When upgrading from SIMIT V7.0 to version 7.1, users are required to enter a new license key during installation. To obtain this key, users must contact SIMIT-Activation.industry@siemens.com, providing their dongle number and the security code that was delivered to them. For additional libraries acquired, a separate license key is necessary, which can be entered during installation or later by choosing the option 'Install license key' from the installation program .

The USB dongle serves as a hardware key necessary for running SIMIT. It must be attached to a USB port when starting and running SIMIT to ensure the software is activated properly. If activation issues arise, users should contact SIMIT-Activation.industry@siemens.com with necessary details such as the dongle number and security code to receive further assistance with licensing problems .

Post-installation, SIMIT launches several processes which communicate via TCP. It is necessary to configure the computer such that not only the administrator, but all users permitted to work with SIMIT can communicate. The addresses used for communication can be found in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Siemens\SIMIT7\SIMIT under the entries uri, aruri, and cteuri .

The minimum hardware requirements for installing SIMIT 7 include a standard PC, a CD drive, and an available USB 2.0 port, with a caution against using USB extensions or hubs. The software requirements include certain Windows Operating Systems: Windows XP Professional SP3, 32 Bit; Windows 7 Professional SP1, 32 Bit, 64 Bit; and Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 32 Bit, 64 Bit. Optional software mentioned is SIMATIC STEP 7 and S7-PLCSIM .
