SYSTRA - INDIA EVOLUTION AND GROWTH

SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Private Limited (SMCIPL) was established in 2005 as a wholly owned
subsidiary of SYSTRA with its registered office in New Delhi and Corporate office in Faridabad (Haryana)
for providing consulting and engineering services. SYSTRA is proud of long and valued partnership in India,
our association dates back to 1960, when we were selected to provide technology for the electrification
of the Indian Railways. The 25 KVA traction system has since become the backbone of Indian Railways.
During the 1980’s we provided assistance for India’s first metro project - The Kolkata Metro. Since the late
1990’s, SYSTRA’s presence in the country has grown from a liaison/project office to a wholly owned
subsidiary in 2005, known as SYSTRA MVA Consulting (India) Private Limited.

In 2014, SYSTRA acquired SAI Consulting Engineers Private Limited (SAI), this acquisition allowed SYSTRA to
complete its positioning by strengthening its craft in roads, highways and urban infrastructure segment
with a wider geographical position in India. In 2018, SYSTRA’s subsidiary in India, SYSTRA MVA Consulting
(India) Private Limited also known as SYSTRA India merged with SAI to reach higher growth in
Transportation and Infrastructure markets and formed one entity called “SYSTRA Group in India (SI)”. SI has

SYSTRA adapts its project management strategies by leveraging advanced technical tools and methodologies tailored to the specific challenges of each project. For the Brenner Base Tunnel, one of the world's longest underground railways, SYSTRA used tools like the Digital Project Hard Rock based on Monte Carlo algorithms for effective TBM selection, ensuring reliability and efficiency. For the Mont Cenis Base Tunnel under complex Alpine conditions, they employed a mix of Drill & Blast, Shield TBMs, and Gripper TBMs, all underscored by detailed design and project management consultancy, ensuring successful navigation of geologically challenging environments .

SYSTRA's approach to the Mumbai Metro Line 3 project integrates advanced design techniques and technologies, such as detailed design services and designer support during construction. The project involves constructing 33.5 km of India’s first underground metro, including 26 underground stations. This complexity required meticulous planning and execution using modern technologies like BIM for coordination and clash detection, SCADA systems for system control, and enhanced construction methodologies for underground spaces. This integration exemplifies SYSTRA's mastery in managing dense urban infrastructure while tackling unique geological and logistical challenges .

SYSTRA contributes to sustainable urban transit solutions by integrating environmental and socio-economic assessments into transport project planning and implementation. By employing modern, efficient technologies and focusing on sustainable design principles, SYSTRA helps optimize operations and minimize emissions, thereby enhancing overall environmental performance. This approach, coupled with data-driven analytics and stakeholder engagement, leads to improvements in urban transit systems by providing more efficient, accessible, and eco-friendly transit solutions .

SYSTRA's contribution to the development of railway systems in India began in the 1960s with the electrification of Indian Railways using the 25 KVA traction system. In the 1980s, SYSTRA supported India's first metro project in Kolkata. From the late 1990s, SYSTRA expanded from a liaison office to a wholly-owned subsidiary, later acquiring SAI Consulting Engineers in 2014 to enhance its road, highways, and urban infrastructure capabilities. Today, as SYSTRA Group in India, it handles projects like the Mumbai Coastal Road and Rapid Rail Transit System and employs over 2,400 personnel across several Indian cities, Bangladesh, and Kenya, showcasing its extensive expertise in transport and infrastructure projects .

SYSTRA is a leading engineering company in public transportation infrastructure with a global presence in over 80 countries. It plays a crucial role in planning, designing, and executing mass transit projects across urban, suburban, and intercity networks. The firm specializes in developing sustainable and accessible transport solutions, employing a multicultural team with experts from over 80 nationalities. SYSTRA provides services in consulting, project management, civil engineering, system engineering, and more, ensuring high standards and continuous evolution in transport engineering .

SYSTRA leverages its multicultural workforce, comprising over 80 nationalities, to enrich project delivery by incorporating diverse perspectives and local insights, which enhance problem-solving and innovation. This diversity fosters adaptability and cultural sensitivity, enabling SYSTRA to tailor its strategies to local contexts and regulatory environments efficiently. The cross-disciplinary expertise within its teams ensures robust design and engineering solutions, enhancing the overall effectiveness and success of global projects in varied geographical settings .

Key milestones in SYSTRA's evolution include its founding through the creation of SOFRERAIL by SNCF in 1957 and SOFRETU by RATP in 1961. The merger of these two companies into SYSTRA in 1995 marked a significant consolidation of expertise in transport engineering. The expansion continued with the 2012 merger with Inexia and Xelis, which bolstered their capabilities in high-speed rail and metro infrastructure. These strategic developments, along with SYSTRA's consistent expansion into new geographic markets and commitment to multicultural staffing and diverse project expertise, have established it as a leader in the transportation engineering sector globally .

The Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) offers potential socio-economic impacts such as significant travel time reductions and cost efficiencies, thereby improving connectivity between metropolitan areas. This improvement can catalyze economic activities and regional development, reduce vehicular emissions, and enhance safety and reliability in urban mobility. Additionally, the system fosters infrastructure development and employment opportunities during its construction and operational phases, which can contribute to the economic upliftment of the surrounding communities .

For the Kolkata Metro Project, SYSTRA employs advanced tunneling technologies such as Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) and detailed structural integrity assessments to manage risks associated with constructing underground next to busy flyovers. Using exhaustive studies and simulations ensures safety and precision. The adoption of modern design software and simulation tools aids in meticulous planning and execution, ensuring that the project meets high standards of accuracy and efficiency while minimizing disruptions in challenging urban environments .
