Multivariable Control Assignment Solution

The document outlines a multivariable and process control assignment involving a differential equation with given initial conditions. It details the steps for applying the Laplace transform to find the function Y(s) and subsequently y(t) through partial fraction expansion. The solution includes calculations for coefficients A, B, and C to derive the final expressions for Y(s) and y(t).

Multivariable and Process control Assignment
Problem 3.1 from the text book

A. The differential equation + 6 +9y=cost

Has initial condition, y (0) =1 and (0) =[Link] y(s) and, without finding y(t), determine
what function of time will appear in the solution.

B. If y(s) = , find y(t).

Solution
A. Laplace transforming,

[ -sy(0)- (0)]+6[sY(s)-y(0)]+9Y(s)=

-s(1) -2 –(6)(1)=

Y(s) =

To find y(t) I have to expand Y(s) into partial fractions

Y(s) = + + +

Y(t)=At +B +C +D

B. y(s) =
Will have complex factor
= = + …… *b=2, w=2+

Partial fraction expansion gives

Y(s) = + + =

Multiply by s and let s→0

A=1/8
Multiply by
A +Bs(s+2) +Cs=s+1

A +4As+8A+B +2Bs+Cs=s+1

A + B =0 …… B=-A=-1/8

4A+2B+C=1 ……C = 1+2(1/8)-4(1/8) = 3/4

8A=1 …….. A = 1/8

Y(s) = + +

Y(t)=( ) – ) +( )
