India’s wildlife population faces numerous challenges despite the population of certain species are multiplying. The
introduction of the Cheetah is one such step forward. The challenges include habitat loss and fragmentation,
poaching, human-wildlife conflict, electrocution and lack of funds and resources. More efforts are needed to
ensure long-term survival of wildlife. This includes balancing conservation with economic growth, engaging local
communities, and investing in resources and conservation infrastructure. Main challenge is to manage wildlife in
– 4 –
human-dominated landscapes outside protected areas. Human-wildlife conflict is a complicated problem that
requires multifaceted solutions. In the absence of carnivores, the herbivores will eat all the vegetation and insects
and birds will not get any fruits or grains which will disturb the cycle of seed dispersal inflicting a wider damage to
the ecosystem. Hence, this problem needs to be addressed urgently.
