EcoBot: Arduino-Powered Smart Garbage Collector
Good morning everyone.
Today I’ll be presenting my project titled EcoBot — an Arduino-powered, Bluetooth-controlled smart garbage
collector. This model demonstrates how simple and affordable technology can help solve one of the biggest
problems faced by modern cities: efficient waste management.
Introduction
- Urban waste management is becoming a major challenge as cities grow.
- Traditional garbage collection systems struggle with:
- Irregular pickup
- Inefficient routes
- High manual labour
- Lack of monitoring
- Garbage overflow leads to pollution, odour, mosquito breeding and health risks.
- EcoBot is a miniature driverless garbage collection vehicle controlled by Bluetooth.
- It shows how automation can make waste management cleaner, safer and more efficient.
Purpose of the Project
- Cities produce massive amounts of waste: plastic, electronics, packaging and biodegradable material.
- Developing countries face:
- Poor coordination
- Weak monitoring
- High dependency on manual labour
- Overflowing garbage bins
- Consequences include disease, contamination, smell and pollution.
- My aim is to:
- Reduce manual involvement
- Improve collection efficiency through automation
- Promote technological solutions in waste management
- Encourage cleaner, healthier and safer surroundings
Methodology
- Arduino Uno functions as the brain of the model.
- Smartphone sends Bluetooth commands using HC-05 module.
- Arduino processes commands and sends signals to L298N motor driver.
- EcoBot moves forward, backward, left, right and stops.
- A small compartment stores garbage, simulating real waste collection.
Components Used
- Arduino Uno
- HC-05 Bluetooth module
- L298N Motor driver
- 4 DC motors and wheels
- Battery pack
- Chassis and garbage container
- Wires and connectors
