Eamon focused intently all around the tavern, focusing on discovering any magic auras he could find and
then trying to piece together the spell's properties to affirm their makeup. Nearby, a lithe and colorfully
dressed half-moon elf man cleaning his songhorn instrument, two decades older than Eamon's age of 15,
chuckled. "Getting a grasp on the Weave and having fun. That's good to see. Practicing your first
cantrip."

The half-moon elf, Nimbrethul, has been seeing Eamon of late, a seemingly human kid with a rather
inhuman charm about him, attending the New Olamn bardic college that's opened up again recently.
He's latched on to any bards he's discovered in the city, attracted to the rich tapestry of creativity and
knowledge he finds in them all.

"Interesting, you've got quite some magic auras on you, Nimbrethul! Now you gotta tell me what they all
are!" Eamon playfully inquired.

"Sure, soon as you can identify which school of magic each one is mainly composed of."

"What? I, uh, didn't get that far."

Nimbrethul chuckled and then the two of them turned and noticed a Watchful Order member walk
through the common room, with a humanoid figure walking behind and seemingly made of what may be
bent and folded sheets of tin. "Huh, a tin golem," Nimbrethul muttered and he watched Eamon furrow his
brow in confusion as he focused on the golem.

"The hells? No magic off that thing. How?!" Eamon exclaimed. "That's some costume then."

"No, of course not, it's a golem, a type of construct given life with magic." Nimbrethul corrected.

"Soooo then it should have a magic aura. It's a Detect Magic spell. So is the damn thing warded?" he
questioned.

"That's because the spells and ritual used to infuse it have long been casted. Ah, yes. You need to brush
up on your spellcraft, Eamon. Come with me, time for a lesson then."

"Yeah, please do. This is already confusing." Eamon stated.

"Alright, well, first I think Detect Magic is a misnomer. It should be more like Detect Spellcraft. Or Detect
Spells?" Nimbrethul continued.

"Well, why did they call it---"

"Not sure, maybe because it was easier or whatever. That's just the spell name used by most schools and
teachers. I don't think you want an actual Detect Magic spell anyway."

"Why?" Eamon asked, really curious.

Nimbrethul takes out a wand,"Good question, I have this just to teach such a lesson to those curious
about magic. Say the command word, Wevthris, and focus on releasing the magic. Warning though. It's
going to be intense."

Eamon was just more curious and did as instructed. Suddenly there was a surge of magic in his sight
everywhere, even inside him, and it literally felt like he was going to explode and all this within a mere
split second. His concentration was gone and his eyesight slowly returned.

"You trying to kill me? There's more creative ways to do that, you know?" he exclaimed. Nimbrethul
laughed and laughed. He then got his bearings.

"That was The Weave, Eamon. It's everywhere throughout our world. It's why spellcasters have had to
develop spells to filter out everything except for what they're specifically looking for. With Detect Magic,
it's only spells they're studying. When you can see and not feel so dizzy, let's have a stroll through
Waterdeep. You have classes soon at New Olamn. Grab your yarting, we'll be practicing and performing
along the way."

The two left the tavern and began strolling through the ever-busy streets of the City of Splendors on a
fine, sunny spring day.

"You see, Eamon, some spells are casted and they bring about an effect that stays shaped and in
existence for as long as a caster can hold it. The stronger a caster is in their magic, the longer the spell
lasts. Basic stuff, I know. But there are effects of magic that come into existence but no longer have need
for magic to continue its state. For example, when magical stone walls are shaped. Magic is used to
shape them, but when the magic ends the state it created continues on in its new form, no longer
affected by magic."

Eamon seemed puzzled,"But why doesn't the stone disappear or revert back to the way it used to be?"

"Well, it depends on the spell, ritual, magic, whatever. It's all based on the design of the caster who
crafted the magic necessary. In the case of a Wall of Stone, well, you're using magic to control the earth
itself into a new form and then releasing the magic as you shape it into its new state. Sort of like working
with your hands on clay. A more weaker spell would probably simply just conjure the earth from beyond,
form into the shape you need, but then dissolve once the magic conjuring it is no longer holding it
together."

"In the case of our metal friend back there, a series of spells and a ritual was used to give life to that
sculpture of metal. Well, at least a semblance of life. Just as you and I live and breathe because of the
positive energy of the multiverse infused in us, giving sustenance to the souls we have, so does that
golem now have a sort of "soul" placed into its form and allowing it to animate although without any
real intelligence so it follows simple orders. It is aware of its environment though, enough to react to it.
Constructs are giving "life" not with positive energy but with the essence of the elements, usually from
the Plane of Earth. The golem no longer needs magic to sustain it, it only needed magic to channel a life
force into it. Some construct are given intelligence, however, as well. Which I find interesting. That means
if enough of them were created they could form their own society and culture over time. Wouldn't that
be something?"

"I'm trying to get it," Eamon chided,"but I need more examples."

"Well, look over there. At
