Today, social media is an important part of our daily life. Millions of people around the world use
platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and X every day. Social media helps us
communicate, share information, and stay connected with family and friends, even if they live far
away. People also use social media to share their hobbies, interests, and experiences.

Social media is useful for students, who can join study groups, watch educational videos, and
learn new skills. Businesses and organizations use social media to advertise, reach customers, and
create awareness about their services. Social media also helps people express their opinions and
participate in social discussions.

However, social media can also have negative effects. It can spread false information, create
addiction, affect mental health, and sometimes be used for cyberbullying. That is why it is very
important to use social media carefully and responsibly.
Chapter 1: Social Media and Its Role in Daily Life

1.1 Definition of Social Media

Social media are online platforms that allow users to create profiles, share information, photos,
videos, and communicate with others. Popular platforms include Facebook, Instagram,
WhatsApp, TikTok, and X. These platforms are available on computers, tablets, and mobile
phones, which makes them easy to use everywhere.

1.2 The Importance of Social Media in Communication

Social media makes communication fast and simple. It helps people stay in touch with family and
friends, even if they live in another city or country. People can send messages, make video calls,
share photos and videos, and celebrate special moments together online. Social media also
allows people to meet new friends and create online communities for hobbies, sports, or special
interests.

1.3 Social Media in Education and Work

Students can use social media to join study groups, ask questions, and share learning materials.
Educational videos and online courses help students improve their skills. Teachers can also use
social media to share homework and communicate with students.

For professionals, social media is useful for promoting products or services. Companies can share
information, advertise new products, and communicate directly with customers. This helps
businesses grow and reach more people in a short time.

1.4 Social Media and Access to Information

Social media help people get news and information quickly. Users can follow local or international
events, watch videos, and read articles. Social media is also a tool to raise awareness about
social, environmental, and political issues. But users must check the information carefully
because false news can spread very fast.
Chapter 2: Advantages and Disadvantages of Social Media

2.1 Advantages of Social Media

Social media help people connect with others, meet new friends, and join groups with shared
interests. They are useful for learning and education because students can exchange knowledge
and watch educational videos.

Businesses and organizations can use social media to promote products, reach a larger audience,
and create brand awareness. Social media also allow users to share important information
quickly, raise awareness about social or environmental issues, and encourage positive actions in
communities.

2.2 Disadvantages of Social Media

Social media can cause addiction. People may spend many hours online, which can affect work,
studies, or real-life relationships. False information spreads quickly on social media, creating
confusion and misunderstandings. Cyberbullying is a serious problem, and negative comments
online can affect mental health.

Sometimes, social media can make people feel sad or stressed when they compare themselves to
others, seeing only perfect photos and happy moments. Privacy issues are also important
because sharing personal information can be dangerous if not protected.

2.3 Conclusion of Chapter 2

Social media are powerful tools with both positive and negative effects. They are useful for
communication, education, business, and information. But users must use them responsibly and
carefully to avoid problems.
Chapter 3: How to Use Social Media Safely and Responsibly

3.1 Protecting Personal Information

It is very important to protect personal information online. Do not share your password, home
address, phone number, or other private details. Always check privacy settings to control who can
see your posts and personal information.

3.2 Avoiding False Information

Not everything on social media is true. Always check the source before sharing information. Do
not spread rumors or false news. Correct information helps people make the right decisions and
avoid confusion.

3.3 Managing Time on Social Media

Social media can be addictive. People must limit the time they spend online and focus on studies,
work, sports, reading, or hobbies. A balanced life is necessary to stay healthy and happy.

3.4 Respecting Others Online

Always be polite and respectful. Do not insult, bully, or share harmful content. Think before
posting, because words online can hurt other people and affect relationships.

3.5 Using Social Media for Good Purposes

Social media can be used to learn, help others, and share positive messages. Join educational
groups, participate in charity campaigns, or raise awareness about social issues. Using social
media for good purposes makes it a strong and useful tool.

3.6 Conclusion of Chapter 3

Social media are useful but can be dangerous if used carelessly. Protect your personal
information, avoid false news, manage your time, respect others, and use it for positive purposes.
Responsible use makes social media safe, helpful, and enjoyable.
Conclusion

In conclusion, social media play an important role in our daily life. They help people communicate
quickly, stay in touch with friends and family, share information, learn new things, and promote
ideas or businesses. Social media also allow people to raise awareness about social,
environmental, and political issues.

However, social media can have negative effects. They can create addiction, spread false
information, cause stress, affect mental health, and be used for cyberbullying. That is why it is
very important to use social media responsibly and wisely.

By protecting personal information, checking news, managing time, respecting others, and
sharing positive content, everyone can enjoy the benefits of social media safely. Social media are
powerful and useful, but smart and responsible use is the key to making them safe and effective
for everyone.

• Brothers and sisters around us here

Top of the morning / Good afternoon,

I feel jubilant to introduce myself: my name is Keren Yazo,
a second level student here at Promoting Youth Education (P.Y.E).
I am more than happy to be in front of you at this wonderful time to present my topic, which is
entitled: “The Importance of Social Media.”

This present work is subdivided into three chapters, apart from the general introduction and
conclusion.
• The first chapter talks about the definition and role of social media in our daily life. It
explains how social media help people communicate, stay in touch with family and friends, learn
new things, and access important information.
• The second chapter discusses the advantages and disadvantages of social media. It
shows how social media can be very useful, but also how they can create problems like addiction,
false information, cyberbullying, and stress.
• The third chapter explains how to use social media safely and responsibly. It gives
advice on protecting personal information, checking news before sharing, managing time online,
respecting others, and using social media for positive purposes.

I chose this topic because I would like to explain to people more about the importance of social
media in our modern world. Social media are everywhere, and understanding their benefits and
dangers can help everyone use them better.

Dear listeners, my topic has been done under the supervision of my teacher and coach, Mr.

Dear President of the Jury, together with your team, and dear audience here present,
this is the end of my exposé. We do not claim to be perfect at all, so your positive and
constructive comments are most welcome!

I say thank you once again for your attention.
