Base Pattern Development Guide
Base Pattern Development Guide
The metric decimal system or simply the metric system: is a set of units of measurement, based on the meter and
related to each other by multiples or submultiples of 10.
It was implemented by the 1st General Conference on Weights and Measures (Paris, 1889). With the aim of establishing a system
unique for the whole world to facilitate exchange, since until then each country, and even each region, had its
own system often with the same denominations for the magnitudes, but with different value.
As a unit of length, the meter was adopted, defined as the ten-millionth part of the quadrant of the meridian.
terrestrial, whose pattern was reproduced in an irradiated platinum bar. The original was deposited in Paris and a copy was made.
for each of the twenty signatory countries of the agreement. The liter equivalent to was adopted as a measure of volume
cubic decimeter. As a measure of weight, the kilometer was adopted, mass of a liter of pure water.
Measuring instruments
The measuring instruments: are means by which magnitudes and lengths are quantitatively verified.
extensions, sizes, weights, calibers, a physical element, person and thing.
Aquellos instrumentos destinados a medir alturas, longitudes y similares, son reconocidos como instrumentos de medición
linear. Commonly we have the tape measure, rulers among others. These, especially, are the ones used in the
manufacturing.
DEVELOPMENT OF BASE PATTERN
The tracing instruments: these are those used exclusively for tracing. However, there are some
instruments that have both functions, for example, the straightedge. In any case, the marking instruments
they allow the delineation to be done correctly.
Making the pattern layout by hand can result in poor craftsmanship and consequently, a
garment of poor quality, with a very bad finish.
Ruler: a measuring instrument that has a scale usually in centimeters, millimeters, and inches. They can be
made of: metal, wood or plastic.
Square: It is a drafting tool used for making patterns, for drawing straight lines. Also as
linear support for tracing with another similar type of instrument. It has the shape of the letter 'L' and is commonly made of
metal (stainless steel, aluminum), wood, or plastic.
Curvimeter: a measuring instrument generally in centimeters used to determine the distances between two points.
on a curved line.
Measurements: these are the ones taken from a person to make a piece of clothing.
Types of measurements:
Bust circumference.

Industrial measurement tables: These are tables that reflect the sizes of the measurements established by the
COVENIN standards.
CREATION OF BASE PATTERN
Importance:
Industrial measurements are worked through tables where all sizes are specified and they are important as they are possessed.
the standard measures.
American table: Its measurements are applied in inches, they can be found on the market in full sizes and with
venting, depending on the production line (ladies, gentlemen, girls, or boys).
Latin American table: Its measurements are applied in centimeters due to the anthropometric problem of the different
bodies, since there are different ancestries (African, European, and Latin). It starts from the universal constant
what is equivalent to size 10.
Size: Set of measurements that fit a body, industrial sizes are classified by number and change by two.
For example, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20. The size is important because it allows us to identify the established measurements by
the COVENIN standards.
Importance:
Humans are characterized by having different sizes according to gender. Each size has different measurements and is worked on.
by scale. According to this, each piece of clothing is made according to the measurements of the sizes.
Types:
Numeral: It is where sizes are identified by numbers such as 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42 among others.

which will suffer later in terms of sizes and models. Generally, the base pattern for adults starts at size 10, for
some models.
Importance:
With them, you can directly trace on the fabric by size and cut in series: all industrial patterns must be traced in
cardboard with the corresponding size.

We created a rectangle with the length of the front bodice by half the back.
2. For the shoulder drop, we use a standard measurement of 4 cm.
3. For the neck, we use standard measurements: neck width 6cm and depth 8cm.
4. The armhole is taken from the width of the back measurement divided by 2, and the result is placed from the line.
shoulder drop down less 1cm.
5. On the bust line, we place the bust measurement plus 2 cm.
6. At the waistline, we place the waist measurement plus 4cm, which is 2 cm for the seam and 2cm for the dart.
7. From the waistline down, we locate the hip height measurement.
8. En la línea de cadera colocamos la cuarta de cintura más 2cm.
On the armhole line, mark a point halfway and go in 2cm.
ELABORATION OF BASE PATTERN
1. We draw a rectangle with the length of the back size by the middle of the back.
2. For the shoulder drop, we will lower it by 3cm.
3. For the neck, we use a standard measurement of 6cm width and 2cm depth.
4. The armhole is taken from the measurement of the width of the back minus 2cm and the result you get will be placed from the line of
falling down.
On the bust line is the fourth bust plus 2cm.
On the waistline is located the fourth of the waist plus 4cm.
7. From the waistline down, we locate the hip height measurement.
On the hip line, we place the fourth hip plus 2cm.
9. On the armhole line, place a point in the middle and go in 1cm.
We draw a rectangle with the length of the skirt plus 4cm of hem by the quarter of hip plus 1cm.
2. From the waistline down, we locate the hip height measurement.
3. On the waistline, place the fourth of it plus 3cm.
4. On the waistline, mark a point in the middle and place the dart, which is 10 to 12 cm deep.
5. On the hip height line, we lower 1cm.
CREATION OF BASE PATTERN
1. Before transforming the rectangle, we leave a margin of 4cm for the closure.
2. We create a rectangle with the length of the skirt plus 4cm of hem by the fourth of the hip plus 1cm.
3. From the waistline down, they locate the hip height measurement.
At the waistline, locate the fourth of the waist plus 3cm.
5. On the waistline, they place a point in the middle and position the dart that is 10 to 12cm deep with width
of 1cm.
6. On the hip height line, we lower 2cm and on the waistline, we go in 2cm.
1. Create a rectangle with the length of the pants plus 4 cm by the hip width.
2. For the shooting line, it is taken from the fourth of the hip.
3. For the hook, it is taken from the fourth hip, between 4cm minus 1cm.
4. For the knee height, it is located from the hip line to the pant length line, you place a point at the
half of that line and go up 5cm.
5. The edge is obtained from the sum of the fourth of the hip plus hook divided by 2, and the result is placed on the line of
waist, hip, knee, boot, and hem.
6. The knee is taken from the fourth divided by 4 minus 2cm.
7. El contorno de la bota se divide entre 4 y el resultado se ubica de un extremo al otro extremo.
8. At the waistline, go in 1cm and the dart line goes down 1cm.
