INSTRUCTIONS FOR PAPER / POSTER / TABLE CLINIC PRESENTATIONS

●​ SLM members of IOS who have registered for the 29th IOS National PG convention
are invited to submit their presentations for papers / posters / table clinics.
●​ Each registered delegate is allowed to present a maximum of only one paper / poster /
table clinic.
●​ Papers shall be accepted in only three categories: Research, Clinical and Clinical
Innovations. Review papers shall NOT be accepted.
●​ Posters shall be accepted in only three categories: Research, Clinical, and General.
Review posters shall NOT be accepted.
●​ Table Clinic shall be accepted in only three categories: Research, Clinical and Clinical
Innovations.
●​ For scientific papers / posters - only one author is allowed. For table clinic maximum
of two authors are allowed.
●​ The paper / poster / table clinic presentation shall be certified by the Head of the
institution in the application form and will be designated as competitive /
non-competitive.
●​ Each post graduate department is permitted to send a maximum of 50% of the
post-graduate strength as competitive presentations. (E.g.: In a department of 8 PGs,
maximum of 4 presentations can be competitive in any combination of paper / poster /
table clinic. Remaining presentations must be submitted as non-competitive). There is
no restriction for non-competitive submissions.
●​ For Peer review: Only PDFs to be uploaded. Please do not mention personal details
or acknowledge staff / guide / college name in the presentation, doing so will lead to
disqualification. (Last date of submission is 30th November, 2025).
●​ The PDF submitted shall be screened and only 50 will be selected for competitive
presentation in each category.
●​ Screening shall be done by a Peer Review Committee appointed by the Executive
Committee with the help of Conference Scientific Committee for screening the papers
and their decision shall be final.
●​ Once selected, the final presentation has to be uploaded in the specified format before
the deadline given (Templates to be downloaded from the website) (Templates will be
released only after final list is given from the Head Office, where specific codes will
be given).
●​ For Table clinics, the size template to be downloaded from the website. (Templates
will be released only after final list is given from the Head Office, where specific
codes will be given).
●​ The final presentations should be blinded. Please do not mention personal details or
acknowledge staff / guide / college name in the presentation, doing so will lead to
disqualification. The final code will be given upon releasing the list of competitive
and non-competitive categories. The same to be mentioned in the final presentations
for all categories.
●​ For competitive category, awards shall be given for the first three places in the paper,
poster and table clinic sections as per IOS provisions of IOS constitution.

Guidelines for Paper / Poster Presentations


Paper: Full PPT to be converted into a PDF and uploaded for peer review. (Manuscript
is not required and no slide limit).
8 minutes for Presentation + 2 minutes for Q & A (Paper).
Poster: PDF Landscape mode 16:9 ratio; with min. 1920x1080P (pixels) resolution to be
uploaded for peer review. (Only poster as a PDF to be uploaded. Manuscript is not
required).
5 minutes for Presentation + 2 minutes for Q & A (Poster).
Research Category: (Only Original Research) (Paper and poster same rules)

●​ These should be scientific studies which fulfil the following criteria (Example: JIOS
2009; 43:3-17).
●​ Clinical research will be included in this category.
●​ Should be undertaken with a proper research protocol and a clear Study Hypothesis.
●​ Should establish a need for this study because of lacunae in existing knowledge, citing
relevant research.
●​ Should follow the IMRAD format.
●​ Ethical Committee clearance where required.
●​ Should give guidelines for future research in the field.
Clinical Category: (Only Case Reports) (Do not include clinical research) (Paper and poster
same rules)

●​ The following types of papers may be included in this category: Case reports
(Example: JIOS 2010; 44: 76-82) in the following categories:
●​ Diagnosis and Etiology.
●​ Treatment Objectives.
●​ Treatment Plan.
●​ Treatment Progress.
●​ Long-term Results.
●​ Discussion.
●​ In these presentations, pre-treatment and post-treatment records (intra-oral and
extra-oral photographs, models, cephalograms, OPG, and IOPAs) should be shown.
For showing treatment progress, a set of mid-treatment photographs should be shown.
Cephalometric superimposition should be shown, where appropriate.
●​ Presentation of multiple cases (Example JCO 2006; XL: 485-492).

Clinical Innovations (Paper only)

●​ Examples: JCO 2006; XL: 150-151, JCO 2006; XL: 161-170, JCO 2006; XL: 171-
174).
●​ These papers should be on modifications / new approaches to existing treatment
methods / appliances.
●​ New techniques / appliances which have been developed by the authors.

General Category (Poster only)

●​ This category is intended to cover the following types:


●​ Critical appraisal of a concept.
●​ Analytical evaluation of a treatment philosophy / technique.
●​ Analytical evaluation of the evolution of a treatment philosophy / technique - how it
evolved, the thinking process that went into the development of that philosophy /
technique, how that technique works (the biomechanical aspects) etc.
●​ Analytical evaluation of the Controversies in Orthodontics Example: AJO-DO 1998;
113:11-13 (Donald Woodside: Do Functional Appliances have an Orthopedic Effect?).
Guidelines for Table Clinics Research / Clinical / Clinical Innovation Category:

●​ For Peer review only:


●​ Research: Only abstract with detailed description the work to be uploaded in PDF
format only. (Example: JIOS 2009; 43:3-17). (No word limit)
●​ Clinical: Abstract with detailed description of the case/ appliance in PDF format is
mandatory. Case photographs/ appliances / clinical work what will be presented
during convention to be incorporated in the PDF. (No word limit)
●​ Clinical Innovation: Abstract with detailed description of the innovation in PDF
format is mandatory. Innovation picture(s) what will be presented during convention
to be incorporated in the PDF. (No word limit)

The table clinic must conform to the space specified by the organizers. Time limit: 5+2
minutes discussion, Maximum of two presenters is allowed / presentation (Certificate will be
awardable to both).
