Step 1 — Check requirements
● You must be accepted to an intensive German course in Germany (minimum 18
hours/week).
● Show proof you can finance living costs in Germany. ( block account)
● Have a valid passport.

● Evening or weekend only courses not accepted
● The German course must take place every day ( Mon - frid)
● Language visa cant be increased (
Step 2 — Request an appointment at the German embassy/consulate
● Prepare & bring required documents: passport, acceptance/registration for the German
course, proof of financing, proof of payment for the course, any visa forms the embassy
asks for.
● Expect possible waiting times for appointments and extra document requests — check
the embassy website.
Step 3 — Apply for the visa in your home country
● Go to the embassy/consulate with the complete documents.
● Pay the visa fee (the poster lists €75 — local currency equivalent).
● Processing times vary by country; they can be significant.
Step 4 — Travel to Germany (entry)
● You enter Germany on the issued entry visa for participation in the language course.
● You should have a flight ticket and (usually) valid health insurance for the period of
stay — the embassy will tell you what’s needed.
Step 5 — Apply for a residence permit in Germany
● After arrival: register your German address at the Einwohnermeldeamt (city
registration).
● Book an appointment at the local Ausländerbehörde (foreigners’ office) to apply for the
residence permit for course participation (referenced in the poster as §16b AufenthG).
● Bring the list of documents they require (they may differ by city).
● Residence permit fees are indicated (poster mentions amounts up to about €100; check
the exact fee locally).
● Important: the residence permit must be applied for after arrival and before the entry
visa expires.
