Time and Work Problem Solutions

The document provides solutions to various time and work problems involving multiple workers A, B, and C, calculating their individual work rates and the time taken to complete tasks. It includes examples of work ratios, total work calculations, and the impact of daily wages. Key results include the time taken by each worker to complete tasks alone and in collaboration.

Time & Work

Solutions

1) Ratio of times taken by A and B = 160 : 100 = 8 : 5.

Suppose B alone takes x days to do the job.
Then, 8 : 5 :: 12 : x ⇒ 8x = 5 × 12
x = 7 1/2 days

2) Total Work to be done = LCM(9,12) = 36 units

A can do 4 units per day
B can do 3 units per day

In 2days, A and B can do 7 units.

In 10 days, 35 unit will bo completed.
Remaining 1 unit and A will do it in 1/4 days.
so, answer 10 1/4 days.

3) (A’s 1 day’s work) : (B’s 1 day’s work) = 2 : 1.

(A + B)’s 1 day’s work = 1/18.
Divided 1 / 18 in the ratio 2 : 1.
∴ A’s 1 day’s work = (1/18 x 2/3)
1/27
27 days

4) [(A + B)’s 20 days’ work] + (A’s 12 days’ work) = 20(1/120 + 1/150) + ( 12 x

1/120) = 2/5
Remaining work =( 1 - 2/5) = 3/5 = (A + C)’s 48 days’ work.
(A + C)’s 1 day’s work = ( 3/5 x 1/48) = 1/80. C’s 1 day’s work = ( 1/80 - 1/120) =
1/240.
Hence, C alone can finish the work in 240 days.

5) (A + B + C)’s 1 day’s work = 1/4.

A’s 1 day’s work = 1/16, B’s 1 day’s work = 1/12
∴ C’s 1 day’s work = 1/4 - ( 1/16 + 1/12) = (1/4 - 7/48) = 5 / 48
So, C alone can do the work in 48 / 5 = 9 3/5 days

6) Let the daily wages of A, B and C be ` 5x, ` 6x and ` 4x

respectively.
Then, ratio of their amounts = (5x × 6) : (6x × 4) : (4x ×
9) = 30 : 24 : 36 = 5 : 4 : 6.
A’s amount = Rs.(1800 x 5/15) = Rs.600
7) Suppose the work was finished in x days.
Then, A’s (x – 8) days’ work + B’s (x – 12) days’ work +
C’s x days’ work = 1
((x - 8) / 36) + ((x - 12) / 54) + x / 72 = 1
6 (x – 8) + 4 (x – 12) + 3x = 216.
∴ 13x = 312 or x = 24.

8) 100 % = Rs.100
125% = Rs.120
25% = Rs.20
100% = Rs. 80 ( for 1 day saves Rs.20)
10 days = Rs.200 Saves

9) Let 1 man’s 1 day’s work = x

and 1 boy’s 1 day’s work = y.
Then, 5x + 2y = 4(x + y) => x = 2y => x/y = 2/1

10) men = x, women = y

3x + 4y = 3780 / 7 = 540 ............. (i)
11x + 13y = 15040 / 8 = 1880 ............... (ii)
(i) x 11, (ii) x 3
33x + 44y = 5940
(-)
33x + 39y = 5640
5y = 300
y = 60 ......... sub (i)
3x + 4(60) = 540
3x = 540 - 240
x = 100

x = 100, y = 60 sub in equation (ii)

7x + 9y = 7(100) + 9(60) = 700 + 540 = 1240
=> 12400 / 1240 = 10 days
