• Scrotum keeps testes at lower temperature.

• Vas deferens carries sperm to urethra.

• Prostate and seminal vesicles add fluids to form semen.

2. FUNCTIONS OF FEMALE REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS

• Ovaries produce ova and hormones (oestrogen, progesterone).

• Fallopian tubes are the site of fertilisation.

• Uterus supports embryo/foetus development.

• Vagina receives sperm and acts as birth canal.

3. SECONDARY SEXUAL CHARACTERS (IDEA)

• Hair growth patterns in both sexes.

• Voice deepening in boys.

• Breast development in girls.

• Broadening of hips in girls and shoulders in boys.

• Head contains nucleus with chromosomes.

• Acrosome has enzymes to penetrate egg.

• Middle piece produces energy using mitochondria.

• Tail helps sperm swim.

• Function: fuses with egg to form zygote.

5. STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF EGG (OVUM)

• Large nutrient-filled cell with nucleus.

• Protected by zona pellucida.

• Non-motile; waits for sperm in fallopian tube.

• Function: provides nutrients and cytoplasm for embryo.

6. IMPORTANT TERMS – FERTILISATION, IMPLANTATION, PLACENTA, GESTATION,

PARTURITION

• Fertilisation: fusion of sperm and egg in fallopian tube.

• Implantation: attachment of embryo to uterus wall.

• Placenta: organ for nutrition, respiration, excretion, hormone secretion.

• Gestation: 9■month period of embryo/foetus development.

• Parturition: process of childbirth.

7. ROLE OF PLACENTA

• Provides oxygen and removes CO■.

• Removes nitrogenous wastes.

• Allows free movement for foetal growth.

9. MENSTRUAL CYCLE – OUTLINE

• 28■day average cycle.

• Menstruation: shedding of uterine lining.

• Ovulation: egg release around day 14.

• If no fertilisation, cycle repeats.

10. SEX HORMONES – TESTOSTERONE, OESTROGEN, PROGESTERONE

• Testosterone: male secondary characters, sperm formation.

• Oestrogen: female secondary characters, uterus lining growth.

• Progesterone: maintains pregnancy, prevents menstruation.

11. IDENTICAL AND FRATERNAL TWINS

• Identical: one zygote splits; same genetics and sex.

• Fraternal: two eggs fertilised; genetically different.

• Identical share placenta; fraternal usually do not.
