The Mouse Deer
Once upon a time, there lived a small mouse deer in the forest. One day, he was very thirsty and went to the
river to drink. However, a crocodile was waiting in the water and wanted to eat him. The mouse deer was
frightened but he tried to think of a clever plan to escape.
The mouse deer said to the crocodile, "Mr. Crocodile, the king will hold a big feast and he wants to count all
the crocodiles in this river." The crocodile was interested and called all his friends to line up across the river.
The clever mouse deer jumped on their backs one by one, counting them as he crossed to the other side. When
he reached the safe ground, he laughed and said, "Thank you for helping me cross the river, foolish
crocodiles!" Then he ran away into the forest.

The Clever Rabbit and the Lion
One day, a fierce lion lived in a dense forest and hunted many animals every day. The animals in the forest
were terrified and decided to make a deal with the lion. They promised to send one animal to the lion each
day so he wouldn't hunt them all. The lion agreed to this arrangement. One day, it was a small rabbit's turn to
go to the lion. The clever rabbit thought of a plan to save himself and free all the animals from the lion's terror.
The rabbit arrived late to meet the lion. The angry lion roared, "Why are you late? I'm very hungry!" The
clever rabbit bowed and said, "I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I was coming with another rabbit, but on the way, we
met another lion. He was very big and powerful, and he ate my companion. He also said he was the king of
this forest, not you." The lion became furious and demanded, "Show me where this lion is!" The rabbit led the
lion to a deep well. When the lion looked into the well, he saw his own reflection and thought it was the other
lion. He roared at his reflection, and the echo roared back. Enraged, the lion jumped into the well to fight his
reflection and drowned. The clever rabbit had saved all the animals in the forest.
