AIM

To investigate and understand the working of an AC

generator, study the underlying scientific principle of
electromagnetic induction, and analyze the process
by which an AC generator converts mechanical
energy into alternating electrical energy. This project
aims to explore how a generator produces
alternating current (AC) by rotating a coil in a
magnetic field, resulting in a continuous change in
magnetic flux linked with the coil, which induces an
electromotive force (emf) in accordance with
Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction.

The project further aims to observe and interpret the

nature of the induced emf and current, particularly
its periodic reversal of polarity, forming a sinusoidal
waveform. Another objective is to examine how the
magnitude and direction of the induced emf depend
on the angle between the plane of the coil and the
magnetic field during rotation, along with the rate of
change of magnetic flux. This leads to a detailed
study of the factors influencing generator output,
which include the strength of the magnetic field, area
of the coil, number of turns of the coil, and the speed
of rotation of the armature coil.
