What writing assignment did you like most in this class? Why?
I thoroughly enjoyed the first narrative essay assignment. It proved instrumental in my film
writing class, particularly by helping me refine the sensory descriptions in my screenplay. I find
that narrative storytelling is a stronger skill of mine compared to research-based writing, as I find
the creative process much more engaging.
What was the most difficult aspect of this course for you? Why?
As this was my first experience with an online English course, I struggled to maintain
consistency with submission deadlines. However, I am fully committed to increasing my level of
engagement in future courses. To support this, I plan to enroll in an in-person class next
semester, as I believe I will thrive more effectively in a traditional, face-to-face learning
environment.
Did you like the discussion assignments during the semester? What were the benefits and
drawbacks of online discussions with others in the class?
Next semester, I am committed to staying on top of all discussion assignments. I accept full
responsibility for my past performance, particularly because these discussions offer significant
value. The opportunity to engage with and learn from my classmates' viewpoints is essential, and
I plan to prioritize these exchanges moving forward. Overall I very much enjoyed the discussion
assignments but like I stated I will make sure to be diligent next semester.
What are the most important things that you have gained from the course in terms of (1)
your writing, (2) your reading college material, and (3) your critical thinking? Please
address each of these separately and please also tell me how you plan to continue to
improve each one.
WRITING
I gained a stronger command of sensory language and narrative structure, which has already
improved my screenwriting work. I plan to continue refining my storytelling skills by applying
these descriptive techniques to future creative projects and essays, focusing on showing rather
than telling.
READING
I learned the value of analyzing diverse perspectives through reading and responding to peer
discussion posts. Next semester, I will prioritize reading course materials early to fully prepare
for in-person class discussions, ensuring I can engage more deeply with the content.
CRITICAL THINKING
This course improved my self-awareness and accountability, specifically regarding how I
manage time and approach different learning formats. I intend to sharpen my critical thinking by
actively participating in real-time discussions and analysis during my upcoming in-person
classes, rather than passively consuming information.
How can I improve this course? Please don’t tell me, “Nothing, it’s great the way it is.”
Please help me by giving me specific, constructive suggestions. Consider the Canvas
modules, the writing assignments, the weekly assignments, the readings, class activities,
organization of the class, or anything else. I won’t be offended by anything you say, so
don’t hold back. I want to keep getting better!
I found the videos very helpful, but I suggest providing a brief written overview of the topics
discussed in each one. This would save time when looking back for specific details rather than
searching through a long video. Aside from that, I really appreciated your help with my research
paper. I struggled initially to find a good topic, and your input helped me find one that worked
well for me.
