2.
Describe a friend or a person who encouraged you to achieve a goal
Example 1:
I’d like to talk about my math teacher in high school, [Link]. Whenever I take maths problems, the
face of [Link] readily appears in front of me.
I was poor at maths in my high school. I remember the time of one test. I had the idea of looking in my
notebook secretly. Unfortunately, my secret was discovered by him, but he said nothing in front of my
classmates to save my face. After the test, I was alone in the classroom and thought about what I had
done. [Link] called me from behind. My heart was beating fast and I guessed that a shower of scolding
would fall on me. Nevertheless, instead, he said kind words to me and encouraged me to be an honest
person. I was moved to tears.
After that, he helped me with my lessons after class and taught me how to apply the theoretical
knowledge to the process of problem solving. Thanks to [Link]’s patience and selfless contribution, I
made progress little by little and achieved a relatively high score in the college entrance examination.
Example 2
I would like to start by saying that motivation plays a crucial role in everyone’s life.
As I have seen 23 springs of my life and motivated lots of time by many people but here I am going to
talk about none other than my uncle, who lives in vicinity.
His name is [Link] Rathod and he is a retd. D.S.P of Punjab police.
He is almost around 65 years of age and I meet him on almost daily basis.
In the 12th examination I got only 55 percent and that moment was really bolt from the blue for me.
I was so depressed and decided to drop study that time my uncle becomes a torch bearer for me and he
motivated me by telling his real life story.
He told me that he he is a cancer patient.
The doctors have already told him that he won’t be alive for more than one year.
But still he is so positive and energetic.
He always keeps smiling and tries to make others happy
He always cracks jokes and behaves in such a manner as if nothing has happened.
Rather he is enjoying every moment of life.
That time he motivated me and says failure is a part of life but we have to stay positive in our life and one
day we will surely get success.
Then I decided to take admission in collage and worked hard.

Finally, I passed by graduation with flying colours.
I reckon, my uncle is the only one which motivated me to active my goals.
Example 3
Describe a time when you were encouraged by other people.
Where and when did this happen?
Who gave you encouragement?
What did you do?
Motivation and encouragement are two key factors for success. They can boost one’s morale and self-
esteem. I have been encouraged by my near and dear ones whenever I undertake a new task or
responsibility. One such memorable incident was when I had to appear for a job interview after clearing
my graduate degree. As it was my first job interview, I was highly nervous and scared of possible
rejection. While getting ready in the morning my mother noticed me sweating and called me to sit down
and talk to the elders of the family. They sat down with me and spoke to me about my preparation for the
interview.
I listened to everyone with enthusiasm as they told me their interview experiences. They started telling
me ways to be confident and be sure of myself. I was told that I had many good qualities and skill sets
that were important for the job. Such kind words motivated me and I could definitely feel the exciting
surge of adrenaline rushing through my nerves. They all gave me positive thoughts and urged me to go
for the interview with their encouraging statements.
I then went ahead for the interview and after half an hour of a test and tough questions, I was cleared for
the position. I felt the change of my state from being nervous to feeling confident due to the
encouragement that my family gave me. I went back home and thanked everyone with the wonderful
news of my selection. Since then, I always go and talk to them whenever I feel the need for their
supporting words.
Example 4
I think motivation is very important in life. Without motivation or inspiration, it is very difficult to
achieve goals in life. Some people get motivated internally while some rely on others to guide or
encourage them.
Today, I would like to talk about my brother who has always supported me in whatever I have done and
his guidance has helped me achieve many goals. My brother’s name is Preet and he is a Captain in the
Indian Army. He himself has been successful in everything that he has done in his life. He has been a
topper throughout his academic and professional career. Whatever challenges life has thrown at him, he
has always cleared them successfully.
At the same time, he has also helped me to become successful in my endeavors. Recently, he helped me
in achieving my fitness goal. For a long time, I wanted to join the gym and become fit. But I was not

regular with my exercise routine and there was no one at the gym to guide me. My brother came home for
2 months’ vacation and I shared my problem with him since he is from an Army background. He told me
that he will join the gym with me and he helped me plan a routine for my fitness. We started going
together to the gym and throughout the training he pushed me to give my best performance. Within few
weeks I could see changes in my strength and fitness levels.
After a period of 2 months I was able to achieve my fitness goal. I can perform lot many exercises
without any difficulty and I was also able to complete a marathon race. I have developed a lean muscular
body and wherever I go people always ask me how I was able to do it. I always give the credit to my
brother who stayed with me and encouraged me to achieve this goal in life. In the end I would like to say
that, like my brother, I also try to motivate people to work harder and fulfill their dreams
Example 5
I believe that everyone has that special person who always supports and encourages you to become better.
For me that person is my mum.
I was pretty good at school but somehow that didn’t translate to good performance at work, at least when
I first started working. I thought it was because I hadn’t found the true calling, that one line of profession
that really suits me.
So, there was a period of time during which I changed jobs rather frequently. You know, it’s not easy
being a newbie in a field, you have to start from scratch, work hard but earn little. During this whole time,
my mum was nothing but supportive, she didn’t even complain at all. And I am really thankful for that,
because in my country when you’ve graduated from college you’re expected to have a stable job and
support your family immediately. My mum was generous and let me experiment with whatever I felt like
doing for some years. Without her financial and emotional support, it’s likely that I would be doing
something that I have no interest in just to make ends meet.
