“The Magic of Christmas Eve”
(Silence on stage. Students are being chaotic. One student, ALEX, looks at a calendar/watch and freezes.)
ALEX: (Loudly) Guys! Stop! Seriously, stop!
(The other students stop and look confused.)
SARAH: What is your problem? We’re just having fun.
ALEX: Do you know what date it is? Do you know who is checking his list right now?
(Piano begins: A very soft, mysterious bass line "bum-bum-bum-bum" — This is the Underscore)
MIKE: (Laughing) Oh, come on. You don't actually believe in that checking-the-list stuff, do you?
ALEX: (Speaking fast, nervous) It’s not about what I believe, Mike. It’s about the risk! He sees everything.
(The Piano adds a little high-hat rhythm or sleigh bells. The tempo is established.)
SARAH: (Getting nervous) Okay, you’re kind of freaking me out. Why are you whispering?
ALEX: (To the beat of the music) I’m telling you... you guys are pushing your luck.
MIKE: So what? What are we supposed to do?
(The Piano Vamp gets slightly louder. ALEX turns to the audience/choir.)
ALEX: (Spoken in strict rhythm) I’m saying... You better watch out.
SARAH: (Spoken in rhythm) You better not cry?
ALEX: (Spoken in rhythm, louder) You better not pout!
ALL CHOIR: (Shouted/Spoken) I'M TELLING YOU WHY!
(ORCHESTRA/PIANO EXPLODES into full volume)
FULL CHOIR: (Singing full melody) SANTA CLAUS IS COMING... TO TOWN!
Song: CHRISTMASTIME
"The Real Meaning"
Setting: The choir finishes the big "Santa Claus" pose. They break character, looking exhausted and
relieved that they "survived" the song.
MIKE: (Breathing hard) Okay... we better watch out. Message received.
ALEX: (Laughing) Seriously. I’m not taking any chances with the Naughty List this year.
SARAH: (She doesn’t laugh. She walks to the front, looking thoughtful.) Is that it?
MIKE: Is that what?
SARAH: Is that all Christmas is? Just... a list of rules? Being good so you get stuff?
(The choir quiets down. The mood shifts from silly to sincere.)
ALEX: Well, no. But... what else is it?
SARAH: (Turning to the audience) What is Christmas? Really?
(Underscore Begins: The Piano plays the intro to "Christmastime" — gentle, steady chords.)
STUDENT 3: (Stepping forward) It’s not about the list.
STUDENT 4: It’s about who you’re with.
SARAH: (Nodding, listening to the music) Yeah. It's the feeling you get when everything finally stops...
and you just listen.
ALEX: (Softly) Listen to what?
SARAH: (To the rhythm of the music) The music. The joy.
MIKE: (Smiling) The bells?
SARAH: Exactly. Let them ring.
FULL CHOIR: (Singing) RING THE BELLS... RING THE BELLS... LET THE WHOLE WORLD KNOW...

NARRATOR / STUDENT LEADER:
As we come to the end of our celebration, let us remember something important.
Christmas is not only a season of gifts…
It is a season of sharing joy, spreading love, building peace, and giving hope.
STUDENT 1 :
It’s a time to lift each other up, to care, to forgive, and to shine a little brighter for those around us.
STUDENT 2 :
So as we leave today, may the true spirit of Christmas stay with us —
in our words, in our actions, and in our hearts.
ALL -
We Wish You a Merry Christmas,!
THE END.
