Explain that the sessions are aligned with DSWD, ECCD, and the Social Work Code of Ethics,

Session 1: Professionalism in Practice
Explain that professionalism is not only about rules but about values, attitudes, and daily
behavior. Emphasize that social workers and childcare workers are role models and that
professionalism builds trust with children, families, and the community.
Work Ethics
Discuss responsibility, punctuality, confidentiality, and integrity. Give examples such as
safeguarding client information and being reliable in duties. Link this to ethical
accountability under DSWD and the Code of Ethics.
Respect and Compassion
Highlight respect for children’s rights, family diversity, and co-workers. Explain that
compassion means understanding behavior before judging it. Reinforce dignity and worth
of every person.
Session 2: Effective Communication
Introduce communication as a core professional skill. Explain that how we speak can either
calm or escalate situations with children and parents.
Positive Communication
Demonstrate the use of kind, age-appropriate language. Explain the importance of tone,
facial expression, and body language. Invite participants to share examples of positive
phrases.
Crisis Communication
Explain that children in crisis need calm adults. Stress listening first, validating emotions,
and ensuring safety. Remind participants to avoid blaming or shaming language.
Managing Conflict with Parents
Explain that conflict is normal and often rooted in concern for the child. Model respectful
listening, empathy, and solution-focused responses. Reinforce partnership with families.
Session 3: Emotional Intelligence & Stress Management
Introduce emotional intelligence as awareness and regulation of emotions. Explain that
emotional competence supports ethical and effective service.
Understanding Emotions
Discuss self-awareness, self-regulation, and empathy. Encourage participants to reflect on
how emotions affect decision-making.
Managing Burnout
Normalize burnout as common in helping professions. Discuss signs such as exhaustion and
irritability. Encourage supervision, boundaries, and support.
Self-Care Strategies
Explain self-care as an ethical responsibility, not a luxury. Discuss physical, emotional, and
professional self-care strategies. Encourage realistic and consistent self-care practices.
Closing Slide
Summarize the three sessions. Encourage participants to apply professionalism,
communication skills, and self-care in daily practice. End by reinforcing commitment to
ethical and compassionate service.
