Humility
Many Christians do not experience maturity because of lack of humility.
*
Many think maturity = mastering theology. Or having full knowledge of
Scriptures. Or having many Bible study groups, and ministry commitments.
*
Although those things are essential for effective ministry, you can’t last
in ministry without humility.
1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding
brass or a clanging cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries
and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I
am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be
burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.

Loving people are humble people.
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (AMP)
4 Love endures with patience and serenity, love is kind and thoughtful, and is not jealous or envious;
love does not brag and is not proud or arrogant. 5 It is not rude; it is not self-seeking, it is not
provoked [nor overly sensitive and easily angered]; it does not take into account a wrong endured. 6
It does not rejoice at injustice, but rejoices with the truth [when right and truth prevail]. 7 Love bears
all things [regardless of what comes], believes all things [looking for the best in each one], hopes all
things [remaining steadfast during difficult times], endures all things [without weakening].
1 Corinthians 8:1 (AMP)
“… Knowledge [alone] makes [people self-righteously] arrogant, but love [that unselfishly seeks the
best for others] builds up and encourages others to grow [in wisdom].”
Philippians 2:5-8
Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not
consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a
bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He
humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
1. Jesus was submitted to His parents
○ Luke 2:51
Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them
2. Jesus was submitted to spiritual leaders and teachers
○ Luke 2:46
Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the
midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
3. Jesus was submitted to the will of the Father
○ John 6:38
For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him
who sent Me.
Humility draws God’s favor
Luke 2:52
And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
Wisdom = application of knowledge of divine and human aspect
Stature = physical aspect; influence, reputation, maturity
Favor with men = holy influence upon souls
Favor with God = the spiritual condition of one governed by the power of God’s grace
Humility makes room for us to grow in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and
men.
Proverbs 1:5
A wise man will hear and increase learning,
And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel,

Mahirap matuto ang taong mayabang.
Humble people stay humble in seasons of promotion
1 Peter 5:5-6
Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one
another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud,But gives grace to the humble.”
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time,
We don’t pray to God, “Lord, humble me…”
Instead, the Bible said, “if My people will humble themselves and pray…”

There is a tendency that we begin to see ourselves as “deserving” of
things, respect, position, just because “you got there”.
You are humbled through the valleys, and stay humble at the mountains

Parehong kailangan na humble before the Lord. Minsan kasi sa “valley” lang
tayo humble. Ang palay kapag nagbubunga, lalong yumuyuko.
2 ways you will be humbled:
1. You humble yourself before God like David.
2. You will be humbled by God like Saul.
Humble people lets other people praise them.
Proverbs 27:2 (NKJV)
Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth;
A stranger, and not your own lips.
Humble people serve
Mark 10:42-45 (AMP)
42 Calling them to Himself, Jesus said to them, “You know that those who are recognized as rulers
of the Gentiles lord it over them; and their powerful men exercise authority over them [tyrannizing
them]. 43 “But this is not how it is among you; instead, whoever wishes to become great among you
must be your servant, 44 and whoever wishes to be first and most important among you must be
slave of all. 45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life
slave of all. 45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life
as a ransom for many.”
A good leader is a faithful follower.
A good speaker is a good listener.
A good minister is a humble servant.

Questions to ask yourself:
• “ Am I still teachable?”
• “Do I serve more now that I’m promoted?”
• “How do I respond when I’m corrected?”
1. Submit to leadership and correction.
2. Serve others regardless of title or position.
3. Invite accountability—ask someone to speak truth into your blind spots.
4. Let others praise you, and remain silent in self-promotion.
5. Model humility in your home, work, and church.
6. Ask God to reveal any pride hiding in your heart.
7. Practice listening more than speaking.
