Title: "If I Were You: The Misdirected Villain"

Scene 1: The Uninvited Guest

Setting: A cozy yet cluttered writer’s cabin. Books and papers are strewn everywhere, with a half-
eaten sandwich on the desk.

Gerard: (Talking to himself as he types on a vintage typewriter) And… the hero bursts into the villain’s
lair! No, no… too cliché. Maybe he trips over the villain’s cat instead… yes, that’s original.

(A loud knock on the door startles him. He looks up suspiciously.)

Gerard: Who knocks anymore? Is this 1800?

(He cautiously opens the door to reveal a man dressed in an over-the-top, mismatched spy outfit:
sunglasses at night, a trench coat two sizes too big, and an obviously fake mustache.)

Intruder: (Trying to sound menacing but with a squeaky voice) Don’t move! I’m here to… uh… take
your place!

Gerard: (Eyebrows raised) My place? What are you, an understudy?

Intruder: No, I’m a… a… dangerous criminal! pauses for effect The name’s Slick Shadow.

Gerard: (Bursting into laughter) Slick Shadow? That sounds like a brand of hair gel. Did you workshop
that name, or was it a random generator?

Intruder: (Hurt) Hey! It took me weeks to come up with it. Now, hands up, or I’ll… I’ll… um… take
your sandwich!

Gerard: (Sarcastic) Oh no, not my half-eaten masterpiece! Anything but that! What do you really
want, Mr. Shadow?

Intruder: I want your life. You’re a famous playwright, and I’ve always dreamed of living in the
spotlight.

Gerard: Ah, yes. Because playwrights are constantly mobbed by fans at grocery stores. You’ve really
aimed for the stars.

Scene 2: The Writer’s Revenge

Setting: The same cabin. Gerard has now seated Slick Shadow on the couch with a cup of tea.

Gerard: So, let me get this straight. Your big plan was to… what? Knock me out and pretend to be
me?

Intruder: Exactly! I’d wear your glasses and your… um… sweater vest. No one would know.

Gerard: Genius plan, except for the fact that I have writer’s block. Do you even know how to write a
play?

Intruder: pauses How hard can it be? You just write “blah blah blah” and people clap.

Gerard: grinning mischievously You know what? Let’s test your theory. Here, write something.
Impress me.

(He hands Slick Shadow the typewriter. Shadow fumbles with it, hitting random keys.)
Intruder: reading aloud "Once upon a time, there was a… uh… banana who wanted revenge."

Gerard: clapping slowly Bravo. Truly, the next Shakespeare. You’re going to revolutionize theater.

Intruder: genuinely excited You think so?

Gerard: Oh, absolutely. Just one tiny problem…

Intruder: What?

Gerard: You forgot to plug in the typewriter.

(Shadow looks down, baffled.)

Scene 3: Tables Turned

Setting: The cabin, now dimly lit. Gerard and Slick Shadow are playing a board game while eating
chips.

Intruder: So, uh, why aren’t you calling the police?

Gerard: Oh, I considered it. But this is much more fun. You’re like a living comedy sketch.

Intruder: offended I’m a serious criminal!

Gerard: smirking Right. A criminal who’s scared of spiders. Remember the one in the corner?

Intruder: shuddering It had eight eyes! Eight!

(There’s another knock at the door. Both freeze.)

Gerard: Are you expecting someone?

Intruder: No! Are you?

(Gerard opens the door to reveal a police officer holding a flyer with Slick Shadow’s face on it.)

Officer: Evening. Have you seen this man?

Gerard: looking back at the Intruder, who’s trying to hide behind a lampshade Nope. Haven’t seen
anyone that ridiculous-looking.

Officer: squinting Are you sure? He’s wanted for stealing a box of donuts from the station.

Intruder: muttering They were glazed…

Gerard: grinning Well, if I see him, I’ll let you know. Good night, officer.

(He closes the door.)

Intruder: Why didn’t you turn me in?

Gerard: Because this has been the most entertaining day of my life. Besides, who else would come
up with “banana revenge”?

Scene 4: A New Partnership

Setting: The cabin, morning. Slick Shadow is now wearing a sweater vest, holding a pen.

Intruder: So, I’ve been thinking. Maybe I’ll stick to crime… but, like, the writing kind.
Gerard: raising an eyebrow Writing crime stories?

Intruder: No, plagiarizing yours.

Gerard: laughing You’re hopeless.

(They both laugh as the lights fade.)
