This question paper consists of Section A, B, C, D and E. Answer all the questions.
General Instructions:
i. This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.
ii. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions. A
student is expected to attempt only one of these questions.
iii. Section A consists of 20 objective type questions carrying 1 mark each.
iv. Section B consists of 6 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks each. Answers to these
questions should be in the range of 30 to 50 words.
v. Section C consists of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each. Answers to these
questions should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
vi. Section D consists of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05 marks each. Answers to these
questions should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
vii. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with
sub-parts

Question No. 27 to 33 are short answer questions. Answer all the questions in a range of
70 to 80 words.
27. Decomposition reactions require energy either in the form of heat or light or electricity for
breaking down the reactants. Write one equation each for decomposition reactions where energy
is supplied in the form of heat, light and electricity.
28.a) (i) Suggest a safe procedure of diluting a strong concentrated acid.
(ii) Name the salt formed when sulphuric acid is added to sodium hydroxide and
write its pH.
(iii) Dry HCl gas does not change the colour of the dry blue litmus paper. Why?

Question No. 34 to 36 are long answer questions. Answer all the questions in a range of 90
to 110 words.
34.(a) What is methane? Draw its electron dot structure. Name the type of bonds
formed in this compound. Why are such compounds
(i) poor conductors of electricity and
(ii) have low melting and boiling points?
(iii) what happens when this compound burns in oxygen?

(b) A compound ‘X’ on heating with excess [Link] acid at 443 K gives an unsaturated
compound ‘Y’. ‘X’ also reacts with sodium metal to evolve a colourless gas ‘Z’. Identify ‘X’, ‘Y’
and ‘Z’. Write the equation of the chemical reaction of formation of ‘Y’ and also write the role of
sulphuric acid in the reaction.

35 . (a) Define pollination. List the different types of pollination. List two agents of
pollination ? How does suitable pollination lead to fertilization ?

36. Vinita and Ahmed demonstrated a circuit that


operates the two headlights and the two side lights of a
car, in their school exhibition. Based on their
demonstrated circuit, answer the following questions.

(i) Position 2 (ii) Position 3
(b) Find the potential difference across each lamp
when lit.
(c) Calculate the current in each 12 Ω lamp when lit.
(d) A household uses the following electric appliances. A Refrigerator of rating 400W for
ten hours each day: two electric fans of rating 80W each for twelve hours each day.
Calculate the electricity bill of the household for the month of June if the cost per unit of
electric energy is Rs. 3.00.
Section - E (3 x 4=12)
Question No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions with 2 to 3 short sub-parts.
Internal choice is provided in one of these sub-part.
37. Copper sulphate crystals contains water of crystallization, when the crystal is heated
water is removed and the salt turns white. The crystals can be moistened again with
water. The water of crystallization is the fixed number of water molecules present in one formula
unit of copper sulphate. On heating gypsum at 373K it loses water molecules and became
calcium sulphate hemihydrate.
(a) If the crystal is moistened with water, then which colour of the salt reappears?
(b) How many water molecules are present in one formula unit of copper sulphate?
(c) What is the commercial name of calcium sulphate hemihydrate? State one use of it.

(d) Write the chemical equation for the heating of gypsum to get calcium sulphate
hemihydrate.

38. Figures (a) to (d) given below represent the type of ear lobes present in a family
consisting of 2 children – Rahul, Nisha and their parents.
Excited by his observation of different types of ear lobes present in his family, Rahul
conducted a survey of the type of ear lobes found {Figure (e) and (f)} in his classmates. He found
two types of ear lobes in his classmates as per the frequency given below:

On the basis of above data answer the following questions.


(a) Which of the two characteristics - ‘free earlobe’ or
‘attached ear lobe’ appears to be
dominant in this case? Why?
(b) Is the inheritance of the free ear lobe linked with sex of the individual? Give reason for
your answer.

39. Write the importance of ciliary muscles in the human eye. Name the defect of vision that
arises due to gradual weakening of the ciliary muscles. What types of lenses are required by the
person suffering from this defect to see the objects clearly? Akshay, sitting in the last row in his
class, could not see clearly the words write on the blackboard. When the teacher noticed it, he
announced if any student sitting in the front row could volunteer to exchange his seat with
Akshay. Salman immediately agreed to exchange his seat with Akshay. He could now see the
words written on the blackboard clearly. The teacher thought it fit to send the message to
Akshay’s parents advising them to get his eyesight checked.

(c) (i) Draw the correction for Akshay’s defect.
