Report of the interview
Introduction
Gender equality refers to the state in which
individuals of all genders have equal access to
resources, opportunities, and rights. It implies
that men, women, and people of other gender
identities should be treated fairly and be able
to contribute fully to social, economic, and
political life. Although the idea of gender
equality has gained significant global
recognition over the past century, it remains a
work in progress. Disparities still exist in
employment, education, healthcare, political
representation, and social norms, making
gender equality one of the most pressing
challenges of our time.
Gender Equality in
Education and
Employment
Education is one of the most powerful tools
for achieving gender equality. When girls
receive quality education, societies experience
lower poverty rates, improved health
outcomes, and greater economic growth. Over
the past few decades, there has been
remarkable progress in female education, with
more girls attending school than ever before.
However, dropout rates remain high in low-
income areas, especially during secondary
education, due to social pressures, early
marriage, and inadequate facilities such as
lack of sanitary products or safe
transportation.
In employment, women have made significant
strides in professional fields and
entrepreneurship. However, they are often
concentrated in lower-paying industries and
face barriers to leadership positions—a
phenomenon known as the “glass ceiling.”
Unpaid domestic and caregiving work,
disproportionately carried out by women, also
limits their ability to engage in full-time
employment or pursue career advancement.
On the other hand, men often face social
stigma when they seek to take on caregiving
roles, reflecting how gender inequality affects
all genders.
The Role of Education,
Media, and Society
Education and media play vital roles in
shaping perceptions about gender. Schools can
promote equality by teaching respect,
inclusivity, and empathy. Media
representation also influences how societies
perceive gender roles—portraying women as
leaders, men as caregivers, and recognizing
the diversity of gender identities can help
dismantle stereotypes.
Civil society organizations, activists, and
youth movements have also been key in
driving change. Campaigns like #HeForShe
and #MeToo have brought global attention
to gender inequality and encouraged both men
and women to take part in the movement
toward equality.
Conclusion
Gender equality is not merely a women’s
issue—it is a human issue that affects the
development, prosperity, and peace of
societies worldwide. Although significant
progress has been made, there is still a long
way to go to ensure that everyone, regardless
of gender, can live with dignity, freedom, and
opportunity. True equality requires
cooperation between governments, private
sectors, communities, and individuals. Only
by challenging stereotypes, enforcing fair
policies, and promoting mutual respect can
we build a future that values all people
equally.
