PRACTICAL QUESTIONS
Question 1:
Product 1 uses 3 units of material, 9 units of labour, and 12 units of capital.
Product 2 uses 6 units of material, 9 units of labour, and 15 units of capital.
Product 3 uses 9 units of material, 2 units of labour, and 9 units of capital.
A total of 75 units of material, 64 units of labour, and 129 units of capital are available.
Find how many units of each product can be produced by making use of the available
material, labour, and capital.
Question 2:
Three persons P, Q, and R purchase juice, sandwiches, and sweets.
P buys 10 bottles of juice, 5 sandwiches, and 8 pieces of sweets.
Q buys 4 bottles of juice, 6 sandwiches, and 10 pieces of sweets.
R buys 6 bottles of juice, 7 sandwiches, and 9 pieces of sweets.
If the cost of
one bottle of juice is ₹5,
one sandwich is ₹10, and
one sweet is ₹15,
find the amount of money spent by each of them on the purchase of the three items using
matrices.
Question 3:
Three firms A, B, and C supply 40, 35, and 25 truckloads of stones and 10, 5, and 8
truckloads of sand respectively to a contractor.
If the cost per truckload of stone is ₹1,200 and the cost per truckload of sand is ₹500,
find the total amount paid by the contractor to each firm using matrices.
Question 4:
To control a crop disease, it is necessary to use 8 units of Chemical A, 14 units of Chemical B,
and 13 units of Chemical C.
One barrel of Spray P contains 1 unit of A, 2 units of B, and 3 units of C.
One barrel of Spray Q contains 2 units of A, 3 units of B, and 2 units of C.
One barrel of Spray R contains 1 unit of A, 2 units of B, and 2 units of C.
Find how many barrels of each spray (P, Q, and R) should be used to meet the chemical
requirements, using matrices.
Note:
In all the four questions, find the determinant and transpose, and use matrix multiplication
and the matrix method wherever required.
All these questions have to be solved both by hand (on paper) and in Excel, and the printout
must also be attached. The assignment has to be submitted on Monday.
