Course Introduction
Need for Value Education: Education today is skill and career-oriented but not value-
oriented. Without values, skills may be misused (e.g., technology for war, fraud in finance).
Value education helps in distinguishing temporary pleasure from sustainable happiness and
ensures harmony in self, family, society, and nature.
Basic Guidelines: Universal, Rational, Based on Natural Acceptance, Verifiable, and All-
Encompassing.
Content and Process: Content = human aspirations, happiness, prosperity, relationships,
sustainability. Process = self-exploration, dialogue, experiential validation.
1. Understanding the Need, Basic Guidelines, Content and Process
Modern society faces stress, broken families, crime, environmental issues due to lack of
values.
Value education ensures Right Understanding, Relationships, and Physical Facilities in
balance.
Misplaced priorities (wealth over values) cause dissatisfaction.
2. Self Exploration
Definition: Systematic process of self-inquiry to discover purpose of life and true needs.
Content: Understanding self, aspirations, and methods to achieve them.
Process: Self-observation, Reflection, Validation.
Natural Acceptance: Innate approval of truth, respect, honesty.
Experiential Validation: Testing values in real life (e.g., honesty leads to peace).
3. Continuous Happiness and Prosperity – Basic Human Aspirations
Continuous Happiness: Lasting inner contentment, not temporary pleasure.
Prosperity: Adequate physical facilities for needs, feeling assured of sufficiency.
Human Aspirations: Every human wants both Happiness and Prosperity. Balance is
essential.

Right Understanding: Clarity of purpose and reality.
Relationship: Ensures happiness. Values include trust, respect, affection, care.
Physical Facilities: Adequate material needs; excessive focus leads to greed.

Current issues: Materialism, stress, broken relationships, environmental crisis.

Levels of Harmony: Self, Family, Society, Nature, Existence.
Living in Harmony: Practice truth, respect, gratitude; avoid wastage; ensure balance of
personal, social, ecological well-being.
