workbook, etc.)
RQ1
Do you often consider or evaluate the coursebook and material? If yes, please
specify how you have been implementing this action?
Frankly, I just follow the syllabus and guideline from the administrator. When I firstly
heard about the using coursebook, I had planed to take some kinds of evaluation the
benefits and limitations of the student book. I may say the pre-use evaluation is an
important work for every new coursebook or material
What is your point of view on the coursebook evaluation in terms of teaching
speaking skills?

Would you mind suggest your criteria to evaluate the coursebooK’s

appropriateness?
Sometimes I try to take some considerations to teach by look on the coursebook. Well, i
dont have any criteria, but i can give some points that I am used to note in using
courbook.
Uhm first, i will look at the teacher book to see whether it present any way of
presentation, how the authors deploy the unit, their teaching/learning objectives and
compare with the syllabus of the course
Then, i will check the materials, from the package, check whether the series include
useful materials (quiz, hand-outs) that help me to prepare for each lesson.
Another point that i concern is the content, especially in vocab and grammar
Ah and the structure of the coursebook. I’m afraid most the length of unit is too long and
it may cover some difficult point that i may take time to teach.
So, in sum, you mean you take the learning objectives or goals first, then the
additional materials or resources, the third point is the content, and finally, the
structure, am i correct?
Yes, I agree with these points that you have just repeated.
So, how do you perceive the coursebook’s evaluation as a user?
I think it is a useful for better exploiting the materials. But sometimes i feel that it may
take time that i need to focus on, while we as teachers have so much work to done.
I remember that in my TESOL training, we have learnt the course named Choosing
coursbook. I think this course is interesting, but aplly these knowledge in practical
situation not so easy, you know it.
We as teacher normally follow the syllabus and guidelines, and the coursebook have been
chosen already. So the work of look into the materials and follow the instrucstion in the
teacher book is necessary and saving times. Of course, we should improve and adapt
some point that seem unsuitable in our teaching situation.
RQ2:

Would you mind describing the first impression for the coursebook. For example,
the design, the layout, etc?
... Let me see, uhm, I can see the book is full of color, which may be favourable for
young learners.. I mean young learners prefer colorful things, that it can be motivate them
to learn, uhm this is from the learners’s characteristic, I think so.
...and, how to say, ah... another point is about the statements in the teacher book, for i
remember that they said that “build student’s confidence ... to really use English”. I may
say that the series include abundance Songs and game which provide students both vocab
and grammar and how to use these knowledge to practice, especially practice speaking.
And i want to add one more point that i like in this series, that the teacher books is well-
instructed, provide me with step-by -step presentation.
Well, thank you for these information. Then, could you please explain why do you
think these features in the package suitable for your teaching, that is Could you
please suggest some reviews in the first time to see the coursebook?
Well, reviews mean my notes for the cousebook right?
Yes, please give some details in the very first access to the package, the
studentbook ?
Well, how to say, in my expeerience, the students in this age ... that is 6-10 ys ... normally
learn English to enhance knowledge to get the good grade in their school, some are going
to take the mover, flyer tests ect. So that i think they should focus on voc and grammar
for sure. In addition, according to GENERAL EDUCATION ENGLISH LANGUAGE
CURRICULUM, students will have mastered Level 1 of the Vietnam 6-level language
proficiency framework in primary level, learner then must have both knowledge and
skills to express about themselves. So in terms of learners needs, i think the series is
suitable to some extent, for example, in the Unit 1 How we feel, student is introduce to
feelings’ vocab like sick, tired ect. That they can speak of their feelings.
Well, as we can easily see, the series include many songs, and games that is appropriate
for young learner to learn. You may see, children love to play games and sing a song,
right. This kinds of activities follow the principles of learning language [Tomlinson’s
principles], right
So how do you describe your evaluation for the books, in terms of teaching
speaking?
I may say for me it is aprropriate to use the book
What is your point of view on the coursebook in terms of Overall learning
objectives?
