What is Cloud Computing?
Cloud computing refers to the delivery of computing
services including servers, storage, databases,
networking, software, analytics, and intelligence over
the Internet (the cloud). Companies offer these services
on a pay-as-you go basis, making it easier for
organizations to consume and pay for computing
resources.
History of Cloud Computing
The concept of cloud computing as we know it today, however, really
began to take shape in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 1999,
[Link] launched the first software as a service (SaaS) application,
allowing customers to access customer relationship management (CRM)
software over the internet.
In 2002, Amazon Web Services (AWS) introduced its first cloud computing
offering, providing on-demand access to computing resources such as
storage, processing power, and networking.

Benefits of (Cloud Computing)
• There are several benefits to using cloud computing
services:
• Cost savings
• Scalability
• Flexibility
• Reliability
• Security
Benefits of cloud Computing Cont.
Cost savings: With cloud computing, organizations can pay for only the resources they need, when they need them,
which can result in significant cost savings.
Scalability: Cloud computing resources can be easily scaled up or down as needed, allowing organizations to quickly
adjust to changing business needs.
Flexibility: Cloud computing allows organizations to access a wide range of resources and services, which can be
easily configured and customized to meet their specific needs.
Reliability: Cloud computing services are generally highly available and reliable, with service-level agreements (SLAs)
that guarantee uptime.
Security: Cloud computing providers invest heavily in security and frequently update their systems to protect against
the latest threats.
1. What does cloud computing offer that can lead to cost savings for 4. What do cloud computing service-level agreements (SLAs)
organizations? typically guarantee?
A. Pay-per-use model for resources A. Variable performance metrics
B. Fixed monthly payment structures B. Downtime for maintenance
C. High initial investment costs C. Uptime and availability
D. Long-term contracts with fixed services
D. Additional costs for premium services
2. How does scalability benefit organizations using cloud computing?
A. It locks them into a specific level of service. 5. Why is security considered a benefit of cloud computing?
B. It prevents organizations from adjusting to business changes. A. Providers invest minimally in security measures.
C. It allows for easy adjustment of resources to meet business B. Systems are rarely updated to protect against threats.

D. It requires manual intervention to scale resources. threats.
D. Security is the sole responsibility of the customer.
3. Which of the following best describes the flexibility of cloud
computing?
A. Limited access to different resources and services
B. Inability to customize and configure resources
C. Wide range of resources that can be easily customized
D. Standardized services that are the same for all users
Types of Cloud
There are several types of clouds, which can be classified based on various criteria such as the location of the
infrastructure, the ownership of the infrastructure, and the delivery model of the services. Here are some common
types of clouds:
•Public Cloud
•Private Cloud
•Hybrid Cloud
•Community Cloud
Types of Cloud
•Public Cloud: This is the most common model of cloud computing, where services are provided over the public internet
and available to anyone who wants to use or purchase them. They're owned and operated by third-party cloud service
providers, who deliver computing resources like servers and storage over the Internet. Examples include Amazon AWS,
Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. The main advantages are the scalability and the cost-effectiveness since
infrastructure costs are spread across all users.
•Private Cloud: A private cloud is exclusive to a single organization, offering greater control and security. The
infrastructure and services are maintained on a private network, and the hardware and software are dedicated
solely to one organization, ensuring that the resources are not shared with others. Private clouds are often used by
government agencies, financial institutions, and any other medium to large-sized organizations with business-critical
operations seeking enhanced control and security.
•Hybrid Cloud
•Community Cloud: A community cloud serves a specific community of organizations that have shared concerns (e.g.,
the same mission, policy, security requirements, and compliance considerations). It may be managed by the
organizations or a third-party and can be on-premise or off-premise. This model provides a cloud solution where
several organizations have similar requirements and want to share infrastructure so they can benefit from the same
policies, requirements, and values.

2. What type of cloud computing is characterized by
services exclusively provided for a single organization 4. If several organizations with shared concerns and

Cloud Service Model
There are three main types of cloud computing services:
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS): This is the most basic type of cloud
computing service and
provides access to infrastructure resources such as virtual machines,
storage, and networking.
Platform as a Service (PaaS): PaaS provides a platform for developing,
testing, and deploying
applications. It includes the infrastructure resources provided by IaaS, as
well as additional tools
and services for developing and managing applications.
Software as a Service (SaaS): SaaS provides access to software applications
over the Internet, on
a pay-as-you-go basis. Users do not need to install or maintain the
software on their own devices.
