Learjet 40/45 Pre-Course Study Guide

Introduction

Welcome to FlightSafety International and the Learjet 40/45 program. We appreciate

the opportunity to meet you and to assist with your training needs.

This study guide is designed to assist you in your preparation for the Learjet 40/45
Pilot Initial or Recurrent Course. Please review this guide as you prepare to attend
training. In addition to helping ensure you arrive with the necessary documents it will
give you a head-start in learning critical emergency procedure memory items and
aircraft limitations prior to arrival. Doing so will ease your workload while attending
the course and give you an edge in checkride preparation.

In this guide you will find the following useful information:

• Attendance Requirements
• Type Rating Requirements
• Emergency Procedure Memory Items
• Selected Operating Limitations

Once again, we look forward to having you as our guest for training and thank you
for choosing FlightSafety International for your Learjet 40/45 training needs.

If there is anything we can do to assist you prior to your arrival, contact the Program
Manager at the Learning Center in which you are training:

Revision 0.2
Learjet 40/45 Pre-Course Study Guide

Course Flow
The typical Pilot Initial course consists of 6 days of ground school followed by a 1 day
break, 6 simulator sessions followed by a checkride (as required). Depending on your
specific training program you should count on 18 calendar days from start to finish.

The Tucson and Wichita Learjet Learning Centers offer a standard Learjet 45 Pilot
Recurrent course that begins on Monday and lasts 4 days. Morning or afternoon
ground school choices are offered, which are followed by a simulator event each day.

The Atlanta Learning Center Learjet 45 Pilot Recurrent course is 4 days plus an extra
day for a checkride, if required (ex: Part 135). It features a full day of ground school,
followed by split simulator training and ground school for the remaining three days.

The Tucson Learning Center also offers a midweek recurrent course. The course
begins on Wednesday, and features 2 days of ground school followed by 2 days of
simulators. If a standalone check is required, it will be conducted in the afternoon on
Saturday (or Sunday, based on simulator availability). Midweek recurrent courses are
scheduled for crews only (no singles).

Differences training from the Learjet 45 to the Learjet 40 typically require 1 hr of

ground school for Initial and .5 hrs of ground school for Recurrent. There is no
simulator training required for Learjet 45 to 40 differences. These differences events
are typically scheduled concurrent with the applicable Initial or Recurrent Learjet 45
course.

Documentation Requirements
The following documentation is required to train at FlightSafety International:

• Pilot Certificate
• Medical Certificate
• Proof of Citizenship (Birth certificate with a raised seal and picture ID, or
current valid passport)

This documentation must be presented on the first day of class or you will not be
allowed to train – no exceptions.

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
have established these requirements. FlightSafety International does not have the
authority to waive them.

Foreign clients (Non U.S. Citizens) have additional requirements that must be met prior
to course attendance or receiving a U.S. type rating. Please contact Customer Support
for these additional requirements at least 90 days prior to course attendance. To
ensure there are no delays in training please be very pro-active in completing required
actions.

Learjet 40/45 Pre-Course Study Guide

Type Rating Requirements

A minimum of 1,000 hours as pilot in an airplane

AND

Pilots seeking a type rating in a Learjet 45 simulator can receive 100% of that
type rating checkride in a simulator, provided they can document one of the following
eligibility criteria:

–H old a type rating (without a supervised operating experience [SOE] limitation)

in another multi-engine jet aircraft evidenced by a pilot certificate.
– Appointed by a military service as PIC of a multi-engine jet airplane.
– Obtained 2,000 hours total flight time, of which 500 hours must be in multi-
engine turbine powered aircraft.*
– Obtained 500 hours flight time in the Learjet 40/45.*
– Obtained 1000 hours of flight time in two different airplanes requiring a type
rating. *

* Pilots using flight time to qualify for a 100% type rating check must
bring logbook(s) to show individual line entries (IAW FAR § 61.51)
of the required flight hours. Simply bringing copies of the final
page of a logbook(s) will not meet this requirement.

Pilots having a minimum of 1,000 hours as pilot in an airplane, but not meeting any
of the eligibility criteria, may receive a type rating with either a 25 or 15 hour SOE
limitation IAW FAR § 61.157 or 61.63. Pilots may opt to perform a two-segment check
(simulator and aircraft) to receive a type rating with no SOE limitation.

Pilots requesting an ATP in addition to a type rating must bring all of the required
documentation for the ATP. (i.e. logbook(s) and written test results.)

Foreign pilots seeking a US certificate based on their foreign certificate have additional
requirements. This process should be started at least ninety days prior to training. Please
contact customer service for a fact sheet and/or visit the FAA web site at:
[Link]/licenses_certificates/airmen_certification/foreign_license_verification/

This enclosure is designed to be a guide. Refer to the FAR’s for exact requirements
