1. A series circuit consists of a resistance of 10Ω, and inductance of 50mH and a variable
capacitance in series across a 100V, 50Hz supply. Calculate [AKTU, 2018-19]
a) The value of capacitance to produce resonance.
b) Voltage across the capacitance
c) Q-factor
2. Calculate average value, rms value, form factor and peak factor of the following
waveform shown in figure [AKTU, 2017-18]
3. A non inductive resistance of 10 ohm is connected in series with an inductive coil across
200V, 50 Hz ac supply. The current drawn by the series combination is 10 Amp. The
resistance of coil is 2 ohms. Determine: [AKTU, 2017-18]
a) Inductance of the coil
b) Power factor
c) Voltage across the coil
4. The equation of an alternating current i = 42.42 sin 628 t. Determine (i) maximum value
(ii) frequency (iii) rms value (iv) average value (v) form factor.

5. Draw the phasor diagram for the following voltages. Calculate the resultant voltage. Also
find the r.m.s. voltage.
V1=100sin 500t V2=200sin (500t + ᴨ / 3)
V3= - 50cos 500t V4=150sin (500t - ᴨ / 4)

6. A 46 mH inductive coil has a resistance of 10 ohm. How much current will it draw, if
connected across 100 V, 50 Hz source? Also determine the value of capacitance that must
be connected across the coil to make the power factor of the circuit to be unity.

7. A series ac circuit has a resistance of 15 Ω and inductive reactance of 10 Ω. Calculate the
value of a capacitor which is connected across this series combination so that system has
unity power factor. The frequency of ac supply is 50 Hz.

8. For the parallel circuit shown in figure, calculate the following;
(i) Current through each branch.

9. A series R-L-C circuit consists of a resistance of 10 Ω, an inductance of 0.1H and a
capacitance of 8µF. Determine; [AKTU, 2016-17]
(i) The resonance frequency (ii) the Q factor of the circuit at resonance
(iii) Bandwidth (iv) the half power frequencies
10. Voltage across R, L, C connected in series are 5, 8, 10 V respectively. Calculate the value
of supply voltage at 50 Hz. Also find the frequency at which this circuit would resonate.
11. Two impedances Z1 = (10 + j5) Ω & Z 2 = (8 + j6) Ω are connected in parallel across a
voltage of 200V, 50 Hz single-phase ac supply. Calculate the circuit current, power
factor and reactive power.
12. A choke coil having a resistance of 10 ohm and inductance of 0.05 H is connected in
series with a condenser of 100 µF. The whole circuit has been connected to 220V, 50 Hz
supply. Calculate:
(i) Impedance [AKTU, 2015-16]
(ii) Current
(iii) Power factor
(iv) Power input
(v) Voltage across resistance
13. Find the impedance and the power factor of a circuit whose input voltage and current is
given by V(t) = 100 sin ᴨ t and i (t) = 8 sin (100 ᴨ t + 600). [AKTU, 2014-15]
14. Determine the following in the circuit shown in figure.
(i) Admittance of each parallel branch.
(ii) Total circuit impedance.
(iii) Supply current and power factor.

16. A 120 V, 100 W lamp is to be connected to a 220 V, 50 Hz ac supply. What value of pure
inductance should be connected in series in order that lamp is run on the rated voltage?

17. Find the resultant voltage V(t) in the form V(t) = Vm sin (314t + ∅) of two ac voltages
are represented by V1 (t) = 30 sin (314 t + 450) and V2 (t) = 60 sin (314 t + 600).

18. An alternating current of frequency 60 Hz has a maximum value of 12 A.
(i) Write down the equation for instantaneous values.
(ii) Find the value of the current after 1/360 seconds.
(iii) Time taken to reach 9.6 A for the first time.
19. A R-L-C series circuit having R=10 Ω, L=0.1 H and C=800µF is connected across an
alternating supply of 200 volt [Link] the value of supply current, power factor
and VAR.
20. A balanced star connected load of (8+j6) Ω per phase is connected to a balanced 3-phase,
400 V supply. Find the line current, power factor, power and total volt-amperes.
