The infographic illustrates the proportion of UK adults, including men, women and both
genders, who used the Internet within the five-year period from 2010 to present.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that Internet usage among adults rose
steadily throughout the surveyed period. While men initially outnumbered women in terms of
online activity, females eventually surpassed their male counterparts afterward.
Regarding the first category, the percentage of men using the Internet showed a dramatic
growth from 20% in 2010 to 50% in 2015, followed by a gradual increase from about 55% in 2020
to approximately 67% at present. Similarly, a rising trend was observed among women, whose
figure started at just 10% in the first period, then quadrupled to 40% in 2015, climbed to 60% five
years later, and finally reached the highest level of 70% at present.
Concerning the general number of adults, the proportion of Internet users followed the same
upward trajectory. It began at roughly 15 % in 2010, more than doubled to 45% in 2015, before
rising steadily from approximately 57% in 2020 to finally reaching about 65% today. This steady
expansion can be credited to trends in both sexes, although the rate of increase was marginally
higher among women which eventually enabled them to outpace men at the end of the period.
