Image spatial subsetting using ERDAS imagine AOI File

➢ Open [Link] imagery from your share folder


➢ Go to the drawing toolset menu and from the insert geometry menu group
pick the rectangle tool and draw a rectangle over your area of interest

Area of Interest

➢ A new vector (Area of Interest - AOI) file will appear in the table of contents
to the left. Click right on this file and choose
“save layer as” the file as “subset AOI”;
➢ Select the raster tab from the top and in the
geometry menu group select Subset & chip, then
choose create subset image this will open the
image subsetting menu;
➢ In the subset menu fill in the
required input (ortho) and
output file names
(outputsubsetortho image);

➢ Check the box Four corners

If you notice the menu gives


you the option to select the
Number of Input layers at the
bottom of the image, which you
should leave as it is for this
exercise. But for future
reference remember this as you
will be removing unwanted
bands from your stacks in
coming exercises;

In the bottom most row click on


AOI ... and select AOI file from
the menu. It will now ask you to
input the “AOI filename” where
you should put your recently
created AOI file;
Once you click ok you will notice that the
coordinates in the subset definition box in subset
dialogue are automatically updated. Click ok.

Change output type to float and click Ok

Now open your new subset file in ERDAS imagine to


view it.

Next task is you will create an AOI file by following same steps

Go to Drawing tool bar-> Draw a rectangle or any other shape, you will not
save the AOI file.

Make sure AOI file is


selected

Go to Subset again and


choose from viewer option.

Click Ok
