Universal Human Values-Assignment 8

Name – Atharv Mahesh Deshpande

Roll no-PG162
8.11. Global Warming and Climate Change are two big concerns in Nature. Are these
natural occurrences or a result of lack of right understanding of nature?

Climate change has always existed in natural cycles, but what we see today is not natural.
The rapid rise in temperatures, extreme weather, melting ice caps and pollution are the direct
result of human behaviour. It is our lack of right understanding of nature and our habit of
using resources without thinking of responsibility. We took nature for granted, acted as if
resources were endless, and did not respect the balance that nature maintains on its own.
So the issue today is not nature changing on its own, but humans disturbing its harmony.

8.12. Do we, as human beings, have a role to play in nature?

To maintain, or at least not disturb, the harmony in nature.

Yes. Every choice we make either supports the balance in nature or damages it. Our
intelligence gives us more responsibility, not more freedom to exploit.

To make right utilisation of the physical facilities?

Yes. Everything we use comes from nature. We have to use resources carefully, avoid waste
and think before consuming. Right utilisation is about taking what is needed, not what is
convenient.

To find a way of living in harmony with nature?

Definitely. Living in harmony is not about giving up comfort. It is about living sensibly,
reducing unnecessary consumption, and choosing alternatives that do not harm the
environment. Harmony means being mindful of how our actions affect the world around us.

8.13. In your present position, what do you see as avenues to participate meaningfully in
society? Articulate your commitment.

Right now, as a student, my biggest way to contribute is through my behaviour, my learning

and my awareness. I can participate meaningfully by:

 Being honest and responsible in academics.

 Encouraging ethical thinking among my peers.

 Volunteering for social or environmental activities when possible.

 Using technology and education to create solutions, not problems.

 Being respectful, patient and supportive with people around me.
8.14. What are some activities YOU can do to contribute to harmony in nature?

Some realistic things I can personally do are:

 Reduce waste, especially plastic.

 Save electricity and water consciously.

 Prefer public transport or carpooling when possible.

 Keep my surroundings clean.

 Support eco-friendly and local products.

 Plant and care for at least a few plants at home or in the hostel.

 Spread awareness among friends in a positive and practical way

8.15. How would you want to live in your family, workplace or hostel?

I would prefer living with a common goal and shared understanding. When everyone moves
in the same direction, life becomes peaceful, cooperative and more meaningful.
At the same time, I understand that individuals have their own dreams too. So, the ideal way
is to have a common purpose for the house or team but still respect personal goals. This
creates harmony, clarity and mutual support.

8.16. Sample “Code of Conduct” for your family

Family Code of Conduct

1. Speak respectfully to each other and listen without judgment.

2. Share responsibilities fairly so no one feels burdened.

3. Maintain honesty in communication and decisions.

4. Support each other’s personal growth and goals.

5. Spend quality time together daily, even if it is just a meal.

6. Practice financial discipline and avoid unnecessary expenses.

7. Keep the home clean and organised.

8. Resolve conflicts calmly and with empathy.

9. Conserve resources like water, food and electricity.

10. Celebrate each other’s achievements and stand together during challenges.

This code helps each family member feel valued and connected to a common purpose.
8.17. Five commonly faced personal issues and societal ills. Natural or due to lack of
understanding? Solutions?

Personal Issues

1. Stress

2. Anxiety

3. Confusion about career

4. Relationship problems

5. Lack of self-confidence

These are not natural. They arise from misunderstanding, wrong expectations, pressure,
comparison and lack of emotional clarity.

Societal Ills

1. Corruption

2. Discrimination

3. Pollution

4. Violence

5. Unethical business practices

These also come from lack of right understanding, greed and insensitivity.

Solutions

 Education that includes values, not just marks.

 Building empathy, patience and self-awareness.

 Strengthening family and community bonds.

 Encouraging ethical leadership in workplaces.

 Being mindful of our own thoughts, emotions and actions.

Real change begins at the level of the individual.

8.18. Is this the beginning or end of your journey of self-exploration?

It is the beginning.
Self-exploration is a continuous journey. Every stage of life teaches something new. I am still
learning about myself, my purpose and my values. This journey will continue as long as I
keep growing and questioning.
