NCERT COMPLETE NOTES – ALL TOPICS EXPLAINED

1. Ovum Surrounded by Sperm (Fertilisation)

- Many sperms surround the ovum but only one fuses.

- Zona pellucida prevents polyspermy.

- Acrosome reaction helps sperm enter.

2. Ecological Pyramids

- Three types: Number, Biomass, Energy.

- Energy pyramid always upright.

3. GPP and NPP

- GPP = total photosynthesis.

- NPP = GPP – Respiration.

- NPP is available to consumers.

4. Recombinant DNA Technology

- Tools: Restriction enzyme, Vector, Host.

- Steps: Isolation → Cutting → Ligation → Transformation → Selection → Expression.

- Used for insulin production, GM crops, etc.

5. Immunity

- Innate (birth) and Acquired (develops).

- Primary vs Secondary immune response.

- Active vs Passive immunity.

6. Genetic Disorders

Sickle Cell Anaemia:

- Point mutation (Glu → Val).

- Autosomal recessive.
Haemophilia:

- X-linked recessive.

- Affects blood clotting.

Thalassemia:

- Defect in alpha/beta globin chain synthesis.

7. Spermatogenesis & Oogenesis

- FSH & LH roles in males and females.

- Spermatogenesis: spermatogonia → spermatids → sperm.

- Oogenesis: oogonia → primary oocyte → secondary oocyte → ovum.

8. PCR – Polymerase Chain Reaction

- Steps: Denaturation (95°C), Annealing (50–65°C), Extension (72°C).

- Uses Taq polymerase.

9. Nicotine

- Addictive stimulant.

- Increases heart rate, BP.

- Causes lung damage and cancer.

10. Double Fertilisation & Triploid Endosperm

- Syngamy → zygote (2n).

- Triple fusion → PEC (3n) → endosperm.

11. Decomposition

- Steps: Fragmentation, Leaching, Catabolism, Humification, Mineralisation.

- Forms humus.

12. GMO – Genetically Modified Organisms

- Bt Cotton, Golden Rice, Insulin production.

- Benefits: resistance, higher yield.

13. Exonuclease vs Endonuclease

- Exonuclease: cuts from ends.

- Endonuclease: cuts within; includes restriction enzymes.

14. Transcription Suppression

- Repressor binds operator → gene OFF.

- Lac operon model.

15. Nucleotide

- Base + Sugar + Phosphate.

- Nucleoside = Base + Sugar.

16. Point Mutation

- Change in one nucleotide.

- Example: Sickle cell mutation.

17. Hardy–Weinberg Principle

- p + q = 1; p² + 2pq + q² = 1.

- Genetic equilibrium.

18. Honeybee Sex Determination

- Males: haploid (unfertilised egg).

- Females: diploid (fertilised egg).

19. Tapetum & Microsporangium

- Anther has 4 microsporangia.

- Tapetum nourishes pollen; makes sporopollenin precursors.

20. Nucleus

- DNA storage, cell control center.

- Structures: envelope, chromatin, nucleolus.

These notes cover all topics clearly and concisely.
