CLASS 9 SCIENCE – COMPLETE NOTES (ALL CHAPTERS)
CHAPTER 1 – MATTER IN OUR SURROUNDINGS Matter has mass and occupies space. Three
states: solid, liquid, gas. Solids have least kinetic energy and strong forces; gases have maximum
kinetic energy. Processes: Melting, freezing, evaporation, condensation, sublimation. Factors
affecting evaporation: Temperature, wind speed, humidity, surface area. Examples included for
each process.
CHAPTER 2 – IS MATTER AROUND US PURE? Pure substances vs mixtures. Mixtures:
homogeneous and heterogeneous. Solutions, colloids, suspensions. Tyndall effect. Separation
methods: filtration, distillation, chromatography. Daily life examples included.
CHAPTER 3 – ATOMS AND MOLECULES Laws of chemical combination. Atomic and molecular
masses. Mole concept. Writing chemical formulae. Examples of mole calculations included.
