QUALITIES OF SOUND
The sound.
Sound is the effect produced by bodies when they vibrate. It is one of the forms of
energy. A vibration is a small and very fast movement.
When something moves, it produces a vibration in the air and thus sound arises that travels in
waveforms to your ears.
THE QUALITIES OF SOUND are the particular characteristics that each sound possesses and
that allow us to differentiate them from one another.
PITCH: It is the quality of sound that allows us to differentiate between low and high sounds.
A deep sound is hoarse and very low, for example the roar of a lion, the bark of a large dog, the voice of
a person snores.
A high-pitched sound is thin, very loud, for example, the thin voice of a woman, the crying of a baby, the
squeak of a mouse.
In music, pitch is represented by musical notes on a staff.
