Hemimetabolism

(or paurometabolia, incomplete metamorphosis, simple metamorphosis) is a mode of indirect development,

with metamorphosis, characteristic of manythearthropods.

The development of insects in the Order Hemiptera is by Hemimetaboly. The Order Thysanoptera has its
development by Hemimetaboly or Holometaboly.

The insect resembles the adult, but it does not have wings and has immature reproductive organs (there is no pupa).
Examples:Orthoptera, Hemiptera, Cockroaches, Isoptera.

Some authors consider Hemimetabolism only when the young forms are aquatic (naiads) and the
adults have terrestrial habits.
Examples:Odonata, Ephemeroptera.

The development stages of hemimetabolous insects are: Egg → Nymph → Imago.

Holometabolism

, also referred to as complete metamorphosis, is a term used to name the specific type of
development observed in a group of insects that includes four life stages – the egg phase or
embryonic, the larval stage, the pupal stage, and the imago or adult stage. Holometabolism is a synapomorphy of
cladoEndopterygota. This type of development gives offspring the advantage of not competing with adults for
ecological resources since their ecological niches are not the same due to different patterns of
morphology and also physiology at each stage of the life cycle.

Embryo
The first stage goes from the fertilization of the eggs to the hatching of the eggs. The insect begins its development.
as a single cell until it hatches in the form of a larva.

Larva
From the hatching of the eggs to the formation of the larval pupa. At this stage, the creature usually appears in the
shape of worms although there is a great diversity of patterns: eruciform (caterpillar), scarabaeiform
(typical of beetles), campodeiform, elateriform, or vermiform. This stage is generally characterized by
exponential growth and large accumulation of energy for metamorphosis in the pupal stage.

Pupa
Esta fase vai desde a formação do casulo até a eclosão do indivíduo adulto. Neste estágio o organismo do
the insect undergoes drastic modifications and the insect relies only on the energy accumulated in the larval stage.

Image
The adult hometabulum has functional reproductive organs and usually wings: it can be either a phase
ephemeral only intended for reproduction as the longest stage of the insect's life depending on the taxon.
