Project Title: Creating a Business Plan for a Computer Maintenance and Networking Business
Purpose: The purpose of this activity is to guide students through the process of developing a
comprehensive business plan for computer maintenance and networking business. This activity will
enable students to understand key components of a business plan, such as market analysis, marketing
strategies, operational planning, and financial projections, which are essential for securing funding and
managing a successful business.
Instructions:
1. Students will work individually or in groups of five students only to create a business plan for
hypothetical computer maintenance and networking business.
2. The business plan must include the following sections: Executive Summary, Business Objectives,
Market Analysis, Marketing Strategy, Operations Plan, and Financial Plan.
3. Students will present their business plans to the class and submit a written report for evaluation.
4. Presentation and submit a written report with two weeks ( dead date December 16, 2018 E.C)
Procedures:
1. Executive Summary
a. Write a concise description of the business, including:
o Business name
o Business location
o Services offered (e.g., computer repair, network installation, IT support)
o Target market (e.g., individuals, small businesses, educational institutions)
o The mission or vision of the business
b. The executive summary should be no longer than one page and should clearly explain the purpose of
the business.
2. Business Objectives
a. Define at least three short-term objectives (e.g., revenue targets, customer acquisition goals, service
expansion) that the business aims to achieve within the first year.
b. Define at least three long-term objectives (e.g., market expansion, increasing service offerings, and
achieving profitability) that the business aims to achieve in the next 3-5 years.
3. Market Analysis
a. Research and describe the target market, including customer demographics (e.g., age, income level,
education, business size) and any identified customer needs.
b. Conduct a competitor analysis, identifying local competitors offering similar services and assessing
their strengths, weaknesses, and market position.
c. Identify key trends in the industry, such as the increasing reliance on IT services or growing
cybersecurity concerns.
d. Summarize the market opportunities and potential challenges in the industry.
4. Marketing Strategy
a. Develop a pricing strategy for your services, considering factors like competition, customer budget,
and service value.
b. Define the methods for attracting customers, such as:
1. Online advertising (e.g., Google Ads, social media marketing)
2. Local advertising (e.g., flyers, newspapers)
3. Word-of-mouth marketing and customer referrals
c. Develop customer retention strategies, such as loyalty programs, offering discounts for repeat
customers, or providing high-quality customer service.
5. Operations Plan
a. Detail the day-to-day operations of the business, including:
1. Location of the business (e.g., storefront, home-based office)
2. Required equipment and tools (e.g., computers, diagnostic software, networking tools)
3. Staffing requirements (e.g., number of employees, roles, and qualifications)

3. Profit margin calculations
b. Determine the funding required to start the business (e.g., equipment purchase, working capital).

7. Presentation
a. Prepare a 20-minute presentation summarizing your business plan.
